This page is just my theories and belief in the backstory, to help you understand my story better.  For starters:

I don't think Fran killed her parents despite what the game showed, Everyone tells her that it was her who killed her parents but I think there is a different killer at play. Her Aunt Grace. Now I know we see Fran stabbing her fathers body at the end of the game but bare with me.
If Fran is the killer it leaves a lot of questions still to be answered. She doesn't really have a motivation to want her parents dead. In fact she keeps referring to her life with them as heaven. On the other hand her Aunt seems to feel a lot of hostility to Fran's parents.
At the beginning of the game we see into Fran's mind via hypnosis. This is before she takes any pills so it's more likely this scene is unaltered. In this scene we see her having dinner with her parents and they give her Mr. Midnight. We also see Aunt Grace babysitting Fran while her parents go out. Next Fran is in her room hearing a noise from her parents room. She walks in and sees her bodies. Fran runs to the forest with Mr. Midnight where she collapses. There two people show up that scare Mr. Midnight away. A man and a woman. They pick Fran up and take her away. (Whom i think was grace and Oswald.) After this scene everything we see is tainted by the pills so what Fran's perception is can be altered. And We know that Grace and Fran's mother were twins experimented on by Dr. Oswald. They helped him gain an understanding he didn't have before. hen years later one of the twins became pregnant. This would give Dr. Oswald an extra level to his experiment. We know he has been looking for such a child for a very long time. However instead of handing Fran over to him Fran's parents hid her. Both Dr. Oswald and Aunt Grace felt betrayed by them for this act. This gives her the motivation for the murder.
The media was also told that Fran is dead. She has a grave next to her parents but, inside is not Fran but the body of a cat. The question is who put the cat in Fran's grave. It couldn't have been her she was in the asylum. My guess is that it's Grace. Grace is hostile to Mr. Midnight calling him a traitor in one scene. We also know that there were two black cats at one point Fran's and Alice's and one of them ended up in the grave. Grace also says that Mr. Midnight should be the one blamed regardless of who the real murderer is. Grace doesn't blame Fran for the murder at any point. On one hand she could be giving Fran an out but I think she is finding others to blame because it's easier than taking the responsibility herself for her actions. I also think I believe the press was told Fran was dead so the institution could experiment on her with no fear of legal repercussions. This fits right in with Aunt Grace being the killer, because who else would bury Fran and her parents? Their only surviving relative. "But we see Fran kill her dad in the flashback." My question is do we really? The person who shows Fran the flashback is the terrible black who we know loves altering humans perception of events. So a good bet that he is altering Fran's view of reality. Even if what we see really happened what we see what we see is her in the room after both her parents are already dead. My guess is she was the one to remove the knife from her dad's back and that's the bloody knife she has on her for a majority of the game. When Fran saw her parents bodies it put her into a fractured traumatized state from which she was placed into the asylum run by the very man who was the reason for her parents death.
Overall Aunt Grace had motivation of getting Fran to Dr. Oswald. She had opportunity since she would regularly babysit Fran. She has fabricated numerous alibis. Making sure the media think the murders were committed by a dead girl and having the concept of it being the cat as a backup. Ultimately Aunt Grace has a lot more reason to kill Fran's parents than Fran ever did. Not to mention it explains why aunt grace in the end was so evil.
