Our story opens in the city of Yugo, which is said to be a rather supernatural place. Here lives Karina Higuchi, a rather ordinary but popular second year high school student. She is known for how smart she is and this is the reason why most of the boys have a crush on her. However, she is also known as the Ice Queen because she turns down every confession she gets, stating that she is not in the mood or none of the boys are here type. Despite this, there is one person who is able to balance her out.
Enter her best friend, Karin Matsuri. Karin is an extremely loud and bubbly girl, whose outgoing and extroverted nature perfectly compliment Karina's cold personality. Their classmates often wonder how people who are clearly polar opposites get along so well. It is at this moment when Karina and Karin hear a loud explosion coming from the centre of Yugo. They look at each other and know that they have to go.
They quickly rush out of the school building and it is at this moment when their Rider machine known as the Yugo Hurry, a jet shaped vehicle, appears. They arrive and descend in the middle of the city, where they come face to face with a monster. This monster is called a Gamma and works for the evil Tatsumaki Organization. This particular Gamma is called Apollo and he is based on the Greek god of sun and light.
"Stop right there!" Karina bellows
"Huh, who are you?" Apollo asks
"The ones... no, the one who is gonna stop you." Karin says
"One, but there are two of you." Apollo says
"Partner, it's go time." Karina says
"You got it." Karin says
You may be wondering what is going on, and I will explain. But before we get into that, no Kamen Rider story is complete without the opening. It just so happens that the opening fits the tone of this story. You ready, here it is:
Yugo... let's go
Yugo, hurry and go
The city awaits, my friend
It calls us in
I know I can do this
With you by my side
No matter what danger we find ourselves in
We make it past the hardships
Yugo.... let's go
Yugo, hurry and go
Yugo, let's go... Yugo!
Yugo... Yugo... hurry and go
Okay, now that we have the opening out of the way, let's get back to the story. Karin places a belt known as the Cross Cradle (the Henshin belt or "Driver" of this story) around her waist. Karina looks down and notices that is appears around her waist too. Karin then pulls out an item known as a Yugo Key. For those that do not know, "Yugo" is the Japanese word for fusion. Anyway, the Yugo Key that Karin has is the Phoenix Yugo Key which is white with blue accents. On the other hand, Karina pulls out the Dragon Yugo Key which is white with red accents.
"Let's go partner." Karina says
"Okay!" Karin bellows
"What?" Apollo asks
"Henshin!" bellow the two
Karin places her Yugo Key on the right side of the Driver, while Karina places hers on the left side. She then uses both hands to open the Driver and this begins the transformation. It is important to note that Karin and Karina share a psychic link meaning that Karin can hear Karina's voice in her mind. Karin falls to the ground motionless as the Phoenix Yugo Key has her consciousness inside of it. Karina's body becomes enveloped in a shimmering white suit with accents of the Phoenix and Dragon Yugo Keys. The heads of the two animals form the crown of the Rider mask and the eyes of the mask represent the two sides: Blue for for Karin and Red for Karina. This is Kamen Rider Yugo. Karin and Karin's consciousnesses fuse while they are Kamen Rider Yugo, despite Karina's body being used for the transformation.
