"Nggh!" A female Espeon groaned, giving birth.

"Honey, you can do it! One last push!" A male Espeon encouraged. He could see the egg coming out. "Neh!" With one last push, the egg, coated in liquid, came sliding smoothly out of the female Espeon and rolled onto the ground.

"You did it! We have a child!" The male Espeon cheered. "I...did..?" The female Espeon asked, gasping. "Yes! You did! We will protect our child with our lives," The male Espeon promised. He gave her a light kiss on the tip of her ruby-red gem that glimmered in the dawn.

The first breaks of sunlight broke across the horizon. "Aw. And she or he's been born at dawn. They will be the golden one, I tell you." The female Espeon got up, and nuzzled the egg. It sat quietly, as the unborn child slept through the dawn of the day, glowing softly with the power of day.

"Come on! Push! You can do it!" A male Umbreon said, pawing at the egg. The female Umbreon groaned in pain as the egg slid onto the ground. Dawn was approaching quickly, but the first breaks hadn't arrived yet.

"Sweetheart! Our child is born!" The male Umbreon exclaimed, wrapping his tail around the egg protectively. His rings of light glowed with moonlight energy. "We will protect the child with our lives." The female Umbreon made her way to the egg, and placed a paw on it.

She could feel the heartbeat of their child throbbing through the shell, as dawn broke across the sky. Inside the egg, the child was quietly sleeping, glowing with the power of night.

Eevee danced lightly on the grass that sparkled with dew. "Mom! Dad! Can I go out to play now?!" She asked impatiently, wiggling her bushy tail. "Yes, but be careful. We don't want you being attacked by pokemon. And certainly not captured by trainers,"  Her mother said. She waved her lavender colored tail, reading the breezes.

"The weather seems fine. And I don't sense any danger. So you have my permission to go." "Okay!" The Eevee excitedly jumped straight into the underbrush as a precaution while she prowled the familiar forest. Padding silently over the fallen leaves, she playfully ate some berries.

"Mm. These ones are good." She buried her snout deeper into them. After her breakfast, she hurried deeper into the lush forest. Humming a lovely tune, she made her daily rounds around the forest to make sure her friends were all okay. "Pidgey! How's it going?" She greeted her friend.

The Pidgey fluttered to the ground, cocking her head. "All right. But I sense some danger approaching...," Pidgey said.

Eevee's bright smile was wiped off her face, replaced by a frown of worry. "I'm too far into the forest to head back now. Can I take shelter at your place for a little while?" "Of course!" Pidgey flapped her wings, headed into her tree.

Eevee struggled to climb the tree, but finally managed to get a good hold on it with her claws. Just then, there came a stampede of footsteps. "Get him!" A deep and ominous voice growled. Curiously, Eevee peered out.

Another Eevee that seemed to be about the same age as her was running for his life. A storm of Houndours were chasing him, all barking and growling.

Cornered, the male Eevee had no choice but to turn around and brace for the incoming attack. "Now, we want to take our time slowly. I don't want to rush it," The leader, a Houndoom said in a drawling voice. He clearly was relishing the fear on the male Eevee's face.

"What are you even chasing me for?! I did nothing to you!" The Eevee shouted. "Ah. But that is the problem. Absolutely no pokemon are allowed in my territory, do you understand? Only those with my permission are allowed to tread on my land. This is my forest, do you understand? All pokemon who dwell in this forest are my property. And since you clearly live here, you are my property. I can do whatever I want to the likes of you," The Houndoom said with a grin.

"That's not how it works!" The Eevee said defiantly, though with a note of fear in his voice. "Oh? And who are you to decide that? After all, you're just a low mutt." The Houndoom asked.

"And you're a coward! Ganging up on a pokemon like that, that's only how a coward works!" The Eevee shot back. The Houndoom's face darkened.

"It is simply called leadership." Eevee couldn't stand it. From her perch on a tree branch, she leaped down in front of the male Eevee. "Why are you bullying him?! Get out of here!" Eevee snarled. The male Eevee looked astonished.

"And who might you be, young fellow?" The Houndoom asked, looking amused. "That's none of your business!" Eevee snarled.

"Oh? Yet you're sticking your nose into my business. Quite ironic, don't you think?" The Houndoom asked.

"Yet you're bullying him just because he trespassed?"

"Yes. That is how it works." The Houndoom rolled his eyes at Eevee's bravery.

"Then fight me. Fight me instead of him, you coward," Eevee spat. Her fur bristled.

"Me? Fight you?" The Houndoom tossed his head back and laughed, a sharp cackling sound. "No. I think not. Instead, let's see. How about you versus ten of my minions? If you win, I'll be willing to let you and your friend off the hook. If not, you're my prisoner and the mutt dies."

     Eevee's eyes glimmered. "Deal."

The male Eevee stared in shock. Here, out of nowhere, she had appeared and was fending for him.

"Well, mutt? Are you going to move?" Houndoom spat.

Still in shock, the male Eevee stumbled to the sidelines, jaw open.

Ten Houndours moved forwards in a semi circle, teeth bared and jaws open to show off their fearsome teeth.

Without warning, two of the Houndours sprung forwards. One of them was using the attack Thunder Fang, while the other was using Fire Fang.

With ease, Eevee leapt back and watched as the two collided, accidentally damaging each other. She cocked her head. "That's all you got?"

The two Houndours, still in a daze, were promptly trampled by the rest as they charged, each one firing up a fiery attack. Then they blasted the Eevee with flames.

Once the smoke cleared, there was no trace of the female Eevee. "Where'd she go?" The Houndoom demanded, sniffing the smoky air. But due to all the smoke from their fiery blasts hanging in the air, he was unable to sniff out Eevee's mysterious location.

"That sneaky little-! Spread out and find her!" The Houndoom ordered angrily, pacing.

"Weren't you wondering where I was?" All the Houndours turned in shock as a mound of dirt erupted from the ground, and out flew Eevee with a smirk. She used the attack Body Slam, and all the Houndours went flying in different directions.

The Houndoom gaped at her in shock. "Well? Are you going to hold your end of the bargain?" Eevee looked at him expectantly.

"I- Very well, I will hold my end," Houndoom said, visibly impressed and shocked. "C'mon," Eevee said, gesturing to the male Eevee who was staring in shock at her.

"Wow! That was simply incredible! How'd you do that?" The Eevee asked. Eevee brushed off the compliment. "I just train a lot."

Then, as they turned a corner, they found what Eevee's mother had warned her exactly about. Eevee's heart dropped. It was a trainer.
