REESE DECIDED TO CHECK out a juice bar after she got home from school, seeing as it looked pretty good and she could use a sweet drink to cheer her up. Adjusting to her new life in Forks hadn't exactly been easy, but slowly but surely, Reese was forming a routine in her new town.

After getting a Berry Blast Juice—made with blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and apple—she made her way to one of the small, round wooden tables that were set up throughout the small bar. As she sat down with her juice and opened up her notebook to start working on some of her school assignments, in her peripheral vision, something caught her eye.

Or, rather, someone.

Sitting at the table next to hers was a man and a woman. They both had wavy, thick golden hair that looked straight out of a hair commercial, and golden eyes that reminded her of Alice's. They were both otherworldly, inhumanly beautiful—once again, just like Alice—and her breath hitched for a moment as she looked at them. They were so intimidating, unlike Alice, who was so friendly and bubbly.

Shaking her head to snap out of it and to avoid looking like a total creep, she forced her attention back to the notebook in front of her and began sipping on her juice.

As it was, her attempt to focus on her work proved futile when just a few moments later, the pixie-haired girl that had haunted Reese's mind all day walked over to the table with the other two and sat down. Reese thought she must've imagined Alice glancing in her direction with a small smile. She didn't even know why Alice didn't seem to want to leave her mind, seeing as they were hardly even friends.

They were all speaking quietly, and even though Reese was sitting only a foot or two away from them, she couldn't make out what they were saying at all; their tones were so hushed and quick, until Alice, more loudly and clearly said, "I still haven't finished my calculus homework. I'm stuck on number seven."

The blond man just gave Alice a calm look, while the woman gave her a slightly exasperated one. Alice continued, her voice almost too eager, like she was trying to seem casual, "I also have a project due in geography on Thursday. I'm gonna need you guys' help if I'm gonna pass."

"Listen, Alice," the blonde woman began, but her voice switched back to that silent, hushed tone from before, and Reese couldn't possibly tell what the rest of her sentence was, just that when she finished speaking, her face was pulled into a slight grimace, as if she was concerned.

Reese watched as Alice's joyful expression dropped, and her shoulders went rigid. She replied, but as usual, Reese couldn't hear the words that left her lips. She gave the two blondes a look that Reese couldn't decipher before standing up from her chair and walking off, her pace brisk.

A frown marred Reese's face. When she met Alice, she was just so happy—this almost overwhelming aura of positivity and warm feelings came off of her in strong waves, so much so that it made Reese share her happiness. Seeing Alice upset, the smile no longer on her face, replaced by a frown, only served to make Reese upset, too; the reason being unclear. The two blondes shared a worried glance as they watched Alice walk away from them.
