Monday - First Day of School
It was the first day back to school in three long months-time had flown by like a fleeting shadow. My peers buzzed around me, a mixture of nervous energy and bubbling excitement rippling through the air. I overheard snippets of chatter about classes and new schedules, but I tuned out the noise, choosing instead to focus on my own thoughts as I made my way through the vibrant hallways.
As I strolled toward English class, my light black backpack swung gently from my right shoulder, while my arms cradled a stack of two well-worn books, brightly colored notebooks, and red plastic folder. English was my final period of the day, a comforting routine that I looked forward to. Our school had an unassuming exterior, typical and plain, yet it somehow felt like home, a sanctuary we all secretly cherished. Thankfully, the halls were well-kept, with polished floors that reflected the sunlight streaming through the tall windows.
Yet, beneath this seemingly perfect facade, there was an undercurrent of pain. Over the years, we had faced some troubling issues of bullying and disrespect that cast a shadow on our camaraderie. My friend Amber Flores had endured a tormenting incident back in second grade that had left her bearing the brunt of cruel taunts: she had accidentally wet her pants during recess. Since that day, her laughter had faded, and I could see the deepening lines of sadness etched on her face. Amelia and I had come to realize that she was battling something far heavier than the occasional jeers-she was grappling with depression, a silent struggle exacerbated by the unkindness of our peers.
English
Once I step into Mr. Fernandez's classroom, my gaze flits over to him. He's seated at his small black desk chair, the fabric warm sleek, his fingers dancing across the keyboard, eyes fixed and intense, as if the world outside has melted away. His straight posture exudes both confidence and dedication, a magnet for attention in the busy room.Damn, he's so fine...
I shake my head, banishing the thought as I make my way toward a seat in the back, positioned centrally towards the sleek smartboard that glimmers in the early afternoon light. With deliberate motions, I set down my English materials in the left corner of my desk, the papers crisp and the texts substantial. My backpack thuds softly onto the right side of the floor before I sink into the cold embrace of the red chair, crossing my legs and trying to focus.
What feels like an eternity passes before my friends Amber and Amelia saunter into the room, their laughter a bright contrast to the murmurs of the other students. "Hey!" they chime, their voices as cheerful as the sunny day outside. A smile spreads across my face as I return their greeting, gesturing for them to join me. Amelia takes the seat on my left, while Amber takes the seat on my right, both radiating warmth and familiarity.
Amelia places her materials down with a satisfying thud on her desk, the sound a pleasant rhythm in the air, then tosses her backpack with a soft thump to the floor, making quick adjustments to position it closer before she takes her seat beside me.
