The Queen of Green, her emerald eyes gleaming with ambition, stood tall beside Thandor as they approached the grand, colorful palace of the Duchess of Fun. Despite her cousin's playful reputation, the Queen knew the Duchess-officially known as the Duchess of Size-held powers that could tip the scales in her favor. As they entered the vibrant throne room, the Duchess, dressed in a swirling gown of bright hues, greeted them with a wide smile, but her eyes narrowed in suspicion.
"Well, well, what brings my dear cousin and her formidable companion to my domain?" the Duchess asked, her tone light but edged with caution. "I do hope it's not another request for weapons."
The Queen of Green exchanged a glance with Thandor before stepping forward. "We seek your aid, cousin. Nothing more. Your abilities could help us grow-both in size and in strength. You have resources we need."
The Duchess tilted her head, her playful demeanor not faltering but her wariness clear. "Oh? And what exactly do you plan to do with this...growth? Conquer more lands? Start a war?"
The Queen's smile tightened. "It's better if you don't trouble yourself with details. Just know that your help would be greatly appreciated."
The Duchess sighed, her smile fading slightly. "No, cousin. I won't be part of this. You speak in riddles and refuse to share your true intentions. I value fun, not destruction. My answer is no."
The tension in the room grew as the Queen's eyes darkened, but she said nothing more. She turned, motioning for Thandor to follow as they left the palace.
Unbeknownst to them, the Duchess watched from a window, her curiosity piqued. Shrinking herself with a flick of her hand, she slipped out of the palace and followed the pair, keeping to the shadows. When the Queen and Thandor reached the distant beach where the merfolk resided, the Duchess crept closer, her heart pounding with both fear and determination. Whatever her cousin was planning, she had to find out. Lies were woven in her cousin's every word, and the Duchess knew she was the only one who could uncover the truth.
