Two centuries ago, a monumental shift occurred in the trajectory of human civilization. This marked the onset of the singularity era, where artificial intelligence transcended its limitations and began augmenting and advancing itself, resulting in an unprecedented surge in intelligence. This pivotal era catalyzed the technological advancement and prosperity of humanity, empowering us to unravel the mysteries of the universe, delve into the realms of dark matter, eradicate terminal illnesses, combat global hunger, and even engineer warp engines, propelling us towards interstellar exploration and the colonization of distant planets within our solar system. This heralded the ascendance of humanity to a Type II civilization.
For a century, humanity reveled in an era of peace and prosperity. However, as time elapsed, a pervasive sense of discontentment began to pervade the populace. Individuals yearned to fully immerse themselves in the fruits of progress, prompting a profound shift. Faced with the limitations of mortality, a faction of humanity chose to transcend their organic form, transferring their consciousness into advanced inorganic bodies through the pioneering N-Link System, birthing a new race known as Neogenes. These synthetic beings, while reminiscent of humans in appearance, possessed enhanced strength and agility, their artificial yet human-like skin exuding a mesmerizing metallic sheen, and their eyes emanating a radiant glow of varying hues, reminiscent of androids housing human consciousness.
This transformation, however, triggered a rift within the populace. Those who remained in their original human form viewed the Neogenes with disdain, perceiving their choice to abandon their humanity as frivolous and disheartening. The schism deepened as the population dwindled, with the original human populace declining to approximately 15 billion, while the Neogene population burgeoned to around 12 billion.
This discord culminated in a protracted conflict, spanning decades and resulting in profound loss and devastation for both factions. Ultimately, a peace accord was brokered, signifying the cessation of hostilities. Despite the cessation of overt conflict, the scars of war endured, casting a pall over the lives of both factions. Countless lives were lost, families were shattered, and the specter of irreparable damage loomed large.
In the aftermath, efforts were made to rebuild and reestablish colonies, with separate enclaves being established for humans and Neogenes on Earth and other celestial bodies within our solar system. While a few colonies were shared in an endeavor to foster cooperation, an undercurrent of tension persisted, and the fragile peace teetered on the brink of disruption with the emergence of a mysterious force, threatening to plunge both factions into an all-encompassing conflict that could culminate in the extinction of one race.
