I thought this landscape with a really surreal sunset for Georgia, fit the fantasy element called for in the theme. Solitude, to me, would be a walk in a field like this at sunset. A place to plot a book, or just contemplate the beauty around me.
This picture was taken with a Pixel 3 phone. Really? Not your Sony Alpha 5000?! Well, the best camera is the one you have with you, and this picture wouldn't wait overnight for the batteries to charge. Considering that I took it from a moving vehicle, I think it turned out pretty well! My daughter was driving and eager to get home. I miss a lot of good pictures that way. But this picture makes me happy, just to look at it.
I picked it out to distract myself from the anxiety of Hurricane Helene, which was making my daughter and I pretty anxious when we realized it was headed for the Florida panhandle. The last time NOAA was predicting a tropical storm near us, we stayed with my ex for 3 days while Hurricane Irma turned into a tropical storm and hit Tunnel Hill, GA. It's the first time ever a tropical storm went all the way to NW GA. I'm 65 years old and tropical storms used to be a coastal thing! It moved my Ford Explorer 3 feet on a concrete driveway, and I had the parking brake on! This was a concrete driveway with a steep hill on the other side. Yeah, Maggie and I were pretty nervous! These are the entries from my monthly Daily Log, a text file to help me keep track of how long things take me. I only note big things, and a hurricane? That counts.
12:41 AM 27-Sep-24 Hurricane Helene made landfall an hour or so ago and we're just watching Ryan Hall Y'all on YT. Worried about flooding. Church folks came out and decided we didn't need to sandbag.
1:51 PM 27-Sep-24 Everything's okay, Helene went east and didn't get us!
I will say we got extremely lucky. One of the logs blown off the old oak tree was a branch as big as my arm. We were going to have to pay $200 to get it sawed off. Thanks, Helene! I put a pic of that on my Instagram today, when it happened. The thud it made sounded like a car door opening, but that was it hitting our metal roof!
