Unspoken Truths

The faint scent of rain hung in the air as the trio made their way to Y/N’s house after the soccer game. The weekend had finally arrived, and while they had all enjoyed the match earlier, there was a subtle undercurrent of tension that had begun to brew beneath the surface—especially for Jimin. The usually lighthearted walk back felt heavy with emotions that none of them were quite ready to confront.

Jungkook walked alongside Y/N, his hand occasionally brushing against hers. Each touch sent a ripple of electricity up his arm, but he kept his gaze forward, trying to play it cool. Y/N, oblivious to the impact, continued talking animatedly about the game, her voice full of excitement. Her energy was infectious, but tonight, something about the way she smiled at Jungkook felt different to him. It wasn’t just a friendly smile. There was something deeper there, and Jungkook could feel it.

Jimin, trailing slightly behind them, noticed every subtle interaction. Every shared glance between Jungkook and Y/N felt like a knife twisting in his heart. He had spent so much time ignoring his feelings for Y/N, burying them beneath layers of friendship, but now, with Jungkook in the picture, those feelings had clawed their way to the surface. He wasn’t sure how much longer he could keep pretending that everything was okay.

When they finally arrived at Y/N’s house, she turned to them with a grin. “Okay, movie night officially begins now! I’ve got all the snacks ready, and we can watch whatever you guys want.”

Jungkook nodded, grateful for the distraction. “Sounds perfect.”

Jimin, on the other hand, felt the familiar tightening in his chest. Sitting through a movie with the two of them was going to be harder than he thought, but he couldn’t back out now. Y/N was looking forward to it, and he couldn’t disappoint her.

Inside the cozy warmth of Y/N’s living room, the three of them settled onto the large couch, snacks piled on the coffee table in front of them. Y/N sat in the middle, as usual, with Jungkook on one side and Jimin on the other. As the lights dimmed and the movie started, Jimin tried to focus on the screen, but his mind kept drifting back to the way Y/N and Jungkook had been looking at each other.

About halfway through the movie, Y/N stretched, her hand accidentally brushing against Jungkook’s. She froze for a moment, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye, her heartbeat quickening at the unexpected touch. Jungkook didn’t pull away. Instead, he gently intertwined his fingers with hers, a small, almost imperceptible smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

The room suddenly felt smaller, quieter. Time seemed to slow down as Y/N stared at their hands, her pulse racing. She hadn’t expected to feel this way—not about Jungkook, and not so soon. But there was something about him, something that made her heart flutter in a way she hadn’t felt before.

Beside them, Jimin’s breath caught in his throat. He hadn’t seen the moment their hands met, but the change in the atmosphere was palpable. He glanced over and saw their intertwined fingers resting on the couch. The sight of it hit him like a punch to the gut, and his chest tightened with a mixture of jealousy and heartbreak. He turned his gaze back to the screen, blinking rapidly to push away the emotions threatening to overwhelm him.

Y/N, feeling the weight of the moment, glanced at Jimin. She could sense something was off, but she wasn’t sure what it was. Her heart was torn between the comfort of her friendship with Jimin and the new, exhilarating feelings she was developing for Jungkook. She didn’t want to hurt either of them, but she knew that things couldn’t stay the same forever.

As the movie played on, the tension in the room grew thicker. Jungkook’s hand remained entwined with Y/N’s, his thumb lightly brushing against her skin in gentle circles. It was a small gesture, but it sent shivers down her spine. Every touch felt like a quiet confession, a wordless acknowledgment of something that had been growing between them.

When the credits finally rolled, Y/N quickly pulled her hand away, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. She glanced between the two boys, her heart racing. Jimin still hadn’t said anything, but the expression on his face told her everything she needed to know—he had seen their closeness, and it had hurt him.

“I’ll, uh, get some more snacks,” Y/N mumbled, standing up quickly and heading to the kitchen, her mind racing. She needed a moment to breathe, to think about what had just happened.

As soon as Y/N was out of sight, Jungkook shifted uncomfortably, the weight of the silence between him and Jimin pressing down on him. He could feel the tension radiating from his friend, and it made him feel guilty. Jimin had been nothing but kind to him since he arrived, and the last thing Jungkook wanted was to hurt him. But the truth was undeniable—he liked Y/N, and he couldn’t pretend otherwise.

“Jimin…” Jungkook began, his voice low, unsure of what to say.

Jimin didn’t look at him, his gaze fixed on the blank TV screen. “You like her, don’t you?”

The question hung in the air, heavy and unavoidable. Jungkook hesitated, not wanting to lie, but also not wanting to hurt his friend. Finally, he nodded, the truth spilling out in a quiet, almost reluctant admission. “Yeah… I do.”

Jimin closed his eyes, exhaling slowly. He had known the answer before he even asked, but hearing it out loud made it feel more real. More painful.

“I didn’t want things to get complicated,” Jungkook added softly, his voice filled with regret. “I never meant for any of this to happen.”

Jimin nodded, swallowing hard. He had always known that one day Y/N might find someone she liked, someone who wasn’t him. But he hadn’t expected it to hurt this much, and he hadn’t expected that person to be Jungkook.

“I get it,” Jimin finally said, his voice quieter than usual. “She’s… she’s amazing. I don’t blame you for liking her.”

Jungkook looked down, guilt gnawing at him. “I don’t want to ruin our friendship, Jimin. This… this wasn’t how I wanted things to go.”

For a long moment, neither of them said anything. The silence stretched between them, thick and heavy with unspoken words and unresolved feelings. But in that moment, Jimin knew that things would never be the same. His friendship with Y/N was changing, and now, his friendship with Jungkook was at risk too.

Before either of them could say anything else, Y/N returned, carrying a tray of snacks. Her eyes flickered between the two boys, sensing the tension in the air. She forced a smile, trying to lighten the mood. “So… what movie do we watch next?”

But the atmosphere had shifted. The unspoken feelings and unshed tears lingered in the space between them, and no amount of snacks or movies could make them disappear.

Jungkook and Jimin both knew that the delicate balance they had been trying to maintain was beginning to crack, and soon, the truth would have to come out. They could only hope that, when it did, their friendship would survive the fallout.

As the night wore on, the trio tried to act as if nothing had changed, but deep down, they all knew better. For now, they would continue pretending, clinging to the illusion of normalcy. But with every passing second, the unspoken truths between them became harder to ignore.

And as Y/N’s heart fluttered every time Jungkook’s hand brushed against hers, she couldn’t help but wonder if it was only a matter of time before everything came crashing down.
