Abhyudaya and Gautami had been planning their trip to Miami for a long time, excited about the vibrant art scene, the sprawling beaches and the endless activities they could document for their YouTube channel, Slayy Point. The day they arrived, the city buzzed with energy and the couple could not wait to dive into the sights and experiences.
"First stop, Wynwood Walls!" Gautami said with excitement, holding the camera as they climbed into a driverless cab.
The sleek vehicle glided through the city streets, effortlessly navigating traffic as they admired the colourful murals and graffiti-covered walls of the famous art district.
"This place is insane," Abhyudaya said, his eyes wide at the explosion of creativity surrounding them. "We should definitely make this the opening shot for the vlog."
They spent the entire morning filming, exploring the massive outdoor gallery of murals, taking pictures and even chatting with a few local artists.
After a quick lunch, they headed to Bayside Marketplace where they indulged in some shopping and street performances by the waterfront.
As the sun began to set, the couple decided to explore the city's nightlife. Roaming around in another driverless cab, they marvelled at Miami's neon lights.
They made a brief stop at the Balloon Museum where the installations filled with colourful orbs seemed straight out of a dream.
"This city is endless," Gautami said, laughing as they left the museum. "So many places to go and we have not even visited Everglades National Park or Star Island yet."
"That is on tomorrow's list," Abhyudaya replied, a playful smile on his face. "But for now, how about some more exploring?"
As they walked down a quieter street, Gautami was animatedly talking about the remaining places on their itinerary. "I cannot wait to get footage of those alligators tomorrow and---"
Suddenly, the screech of tires interrupted her and out of the corner of his eye, Abhyudaya saw a motorcycle speeding toward them, rushing dangerously close to Gautami.
Without thinking, Abhyudaya lunged forward, pushing her to the side of the road. In the rush of the moment, Gautami's arm smacked against his chest and they both lost their balance, toppling over each other. She fell onto him and for a moment, everything around them seemed to disappear.
Their eyes locked, breathing shallow as the world around them blurred. Gautami could feel her heart racing, her thoughts frozen in the intensity of the moment.
Abhyudaya's hands instinctively held her and they stayed like that for what felt like minutes, forgetting they were in the middle of a public street.
But slowly, reality seeped back in.
"Uh….are you okay?" Abhyudaya asked, breaking the silence as he helped her up. He was clearly just as embarrassed as she was, his face slightly flushed.
"I am fine," she mumbled, dusting herself off. But when she tried to put weight on her ankle, she winced. "Actually….I think I have twisted my ankle."
Abhyudaya's expression shifted from embarrassment to concern. "Let me see."
He knelt beside her, gently checking her ankle. "You would not be able to walk like this. Come on, I will help."
He took her hand and helped her stand, but as soon as she tried taking a few steps, the pain in her ankle intensified. She winced again, unable to hide it.
"This is not going to work," Abhyudaya said, glancing around before looking back at her. He handed her bag back and turned around, offering his back. "Get on. I will carry you back to the hotel."
"What? No Abhyudaya, it is fine---"
"No arguing. You can barely walk. Come on," he insisted, his voice firm but gentle.
With a sigh, Gautami relented. She hesitated for a moment but eventually, she placed her hands on his shoulders and climbed onto his back.
Abhyudaya carefully lifted her, holding her protectively, being mindful of her injured ankle.
As they made their way back, the weight of the situation settled between them, but in a comforting way. Gautami rested her chin on his shoulder, her heartbeat slowing down as she relaxed into his hold.
Despite the discomfort of her ankle, there was something undeniably warm and secure about being carried by him.
"Thank you Abhyudaya," she whispered, the sound barely audible.
He glanced back at her with a small smile. "Anytime."
Back at their hotel, Abhyudaya carefully carried her to their shared room, this time in a bridal style, his arms securely around her waist as he held her close. Gautami clung to him lightly, her cheeks slightly flushed as they entered the room.
"You really did not have to do all this," Gautami said softly as he set her down on the bed.
Abhyudaya shrugged. "It is of no big deal."
He knelt beside her, reaching for the first aid box nearby. Opening it, he found a pain relief ointment and returned to her side, gently placing her leg on his knee.
"This might sting a little," he warned, though his touch was as light as a feather. He applied the ointment with care, his fingers moving delicately over her skin.
Gautami watched him silently, her gaze fixed on his face, the way his brow furrowed in concentration and the soft smile that tugged at the corner of his lips.
Her heart beat a little faster as he began to massage her ankle, his hands firm yet careful, working to ease the pain.
"Better?" He asked after a while, his eyes meeting hers.
"Yeah," she whispered, her voice barely above a murmur. "Thank you Abhyudaya."
He smiled at her again, his eyes lingering on hers for a moment longer than usual. "You do not need to thank me Gautami. I am here for you."
The room fell into a comfortable silence, the only sound being the soft hum of the air conditioner. Gautami's heart fluttered as she sat there, unable to take her eyes off him.
There was something about the way he cared for her in that moment, so gentle, so thoughtful that made her feel a surge of emotion she could not quite find to describe.
As he finished massaging her ankle, Abhyudaya gave her one last, reassuring smile before standing up. "Get some rest. Tomorrow, we have got Everglades and Star Island to conquer."
Gautami nodded but even as he walked away, her eyes followed him, the warmth of the moment still lingering between them.
