It's weird. This whole thing is actually weird. The main concern is why does Wei Wuxian suddenly existed again in this world when he is supposed to be dead? How exactly did Mo Xuanyu have the ability to summon his soul from the underworld? As per what Wei Wuxian managed to gather in these past few days, Mo Xuanyu was not exactly an outstanding cultivator. He couldn't even manage to develop his golden core properly and was subjected to bullying from an early age.
It does make sense that Mo Xuanyu seeks revenge against those who hurt him and the perfect person for him to summon for his revenge to be perfectly executed is surely the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, Yilling Laozu. However, that leads to another question. Who taught Mo Xuanyu how to summon Wei Wuxian? It's impossible for this to be Mo Xuanyu's doing alone. Summoning someone from the underworld would require them to have a great cultivation and years of experience and knowledge in that area. For someone who lacks a proper golden core, it is impossible for Mo Xuanyu to have the ability to do something as complicated as summoning the soul of the dead without anyone teaching and helping him.
The increase of fierce corpses as of lately is something worth concerning. From the gossips Wei Wuxian heard from the Innkeeper, the fierce corpses have doubled in numbers since few days ago and it somehow concide with the time he was summoned by Mo Xuanyu. It's impossible that he is the trigger for that because the Yin Hufu was already destroyed during the battle at the Nightless City, and he no longer has Chenqing with him. So, it is more likely that someone is getting greedy and wanted to gain control over the cultivation world again, just like what Wen Rouhan did years ago. If that's so, then the summoning of his soul into this world again is to create confusion, and the blame will ended up shifted on him again.
A soft sigh escaped Wei Wuxian's lips. Why is he getting dragged into this again? He really was fine with being dead. At least death is like a rest for him. He doesn't have to worry about being hunted down. He doesn't have anyone to protect, and most importantly, he doesn't have to face him.
He has always thought Lan Wangji as his confidante. He has always put his faith in that guy because Lan Wangji is different from the rest of the cultivation world. Wei Wuxian had definitely fall head over heals in Lan Wangji. He has been aware of his feelings since the day he met Lan Er Gongzi at the gate of the Cloud Recesses. At first, he thought that Lan Wangji was a selfish and inconsiderate person, and he was disappointed at himself for falling for someone like that. However, later on, he found out that Lan Wangji is actually a warm person. He just doesn't know how to express himself openly like other people. Well, not only is Lan Wangji a warm person, but he is also cute. Wei Wuxian really loves it when Lan Wangji smiled. It's amazing how a smile can immediately soften his feature, and he looks extra cute whenever he does it.
Wei Wuxian found himself blushing at the thought of Lan Wangji smiling. He slap his own face, trying to calm himself down. He can not just fawn over Lan Wangji right now. Heck, he is certain that Lan Wangji hates him just the same as the rest of the cultivation world. If Jiang Wanyin, someone who is considered as his family, hates him, that means Lan Wangji also must have hated him.
What do you expect Wei Wuxian? Do you expect people to welcome you with open arms? Stop daydreaming. All of them want you dead.
Wei Wuxian walks towards his bed. He managed to earn a few silver after helping a family kill 2 fierce corpses who attacked them last night. They gave him the silver as a thank you gift for saving them. At least, that way, he will have somewhere safe to stay at and warm meals to eat. He draws a charm on the door to prevent someone from entering without his permission. Then, he unties his mask and places it on the bedside table before he lays on the soft bed. Well, the bed is definitely way more comfortable compared to the tree trunk he slept on the previous nights. He doesn't have to worry about falling down the tree while sleeping or being attacked by some animals and fierce corpses.
He heard footsteps entering the room just beside his. Looks like there are quite a number of people occupying that room. Probably, some cultivators from a nearby clan are coming to rest here. He just needs to make sure that he didn't cross path with them without his mask on. He was planning on going out later that night and seeing whether other people need help getting rid of fierce corpses or not. That way, he can gain some money for his daily necessities and accommodation. No matter what, he needs to do something to survive this life.
Before that, sleep sounds like a good idea to restore his energy. He let his heavy eyelids closed and his mind drifted off to dreamland.
---------------------------------------------------------
Lan Jingyi felt fears crept up his skin. He instinctively reached for Lan Sizhui's hand and held it tightly. This ominous energy coming from the deep forest is scaring him to the core. He is aware that this dark energy is coming from fierce corpses, but this much energy means that there are at least hundreds of fierce corpses in there. He can feel Lan Sizhui's hand is also getting sweaty. However, Lan Sizhui's expression does not show any indication of fears. It makes sense, though, because Sizhui is the leader for junior cultivators of Gusu Lan Sect. He couldn't show any sign of fear and panic, or else the rest of the group would panic as well. Panicking will only lead to chaos, and that is not good when it comes to battle.
"Set up a barrier here. Don't let them get into the town. " Lan Jingyi shifts his attention to Hanguang Jun. The tight grip Hanguang Jun has on his sword confirms Jingyi's fear. This situation will not be easy to deal with.
He felt a gentle tug on his hand. He looks up and meets with Sizhui's assuring eyes. A wave of calmness radiates through his body from that look alone. Jingyi really likes looking into Sizhui's clear eyes. It gives him a sense of security, and he knows that Sizhui will always have his back. He and a few other juniors follow Sizhui and set up a barrier around the forest. This barrier not only prevents the fierce corpses, demons, and evil spirits from getting out of there, but it also prevents those outside of the barrier from coming in. In a way, they won't have to worry about having unwanted threat coming inside and attacking them.
A distant scream of pain can be heard coming from inside the forest. The voice belongs to a man. Someone must have been attacked by the fierce corpse. Lan Jingyi watches as Hanguang Jun makes his way into the forest towards the source of the scream. He then looks at Sizhui, who gave him a firm nod before he instructed the rest of the cultivators to stay in formation and follow Hanguang Jun.
Upon arrival, they saw a large group of fierce corpses flocking on a specific tree, attacking something or someone there. The groans of pain coming from that direction are getting quieter and quieter until only a whimper can be heard. Lan Wangji didn't waste any time and started attacking those fierce corpses, followed by the rest of the group. Swords slashed the fierce corpses body as they were trying to get to the tree. Lan Wangji, who manages to arrive first, is stunned when he looks at a very familiar face lying on the ground in his own pool of blood.
It's him..
