Gombe, Nigeria

She was bathing in their mud building toilet, scrubbing the black soap all over her body.
After what seem like forever, she rushed out of toilet with her worn black hijab, cleaning her face with the hem of her hijab.
A woman, with her looks you could predict she's in her late 30s,busy fanning some woods that were obviously getting no any hint of fire on them. The atmosphere suddenly changed which was resulted from the smoke that was forming from the woods.

She went passed the woman and was already one feet to their room but the woman's voice stopped her. "maijidda, oh Allah" she looked at maijidda with her already red eyes due to the smoke, and 'hum'.
Maijidda turned to face her mother, she plastered a smile that was not a smile "ummi, lafiya, what happened", instead of her to reply maijidda, she threw her head back and laughed, maijidda's brow drew in and a frown find its way to her face, ummi stood up from the wooden stool she was sitting with the plastic plate she was fanning the woods, she made her way to maijidda's.

"when on earth will you start to bath like a really grown-up girl maijidda" ummui pointed her finger to maijidda's arm. Maijidda followed the fingers direction and shocked her head before entering inside the room.

Maijidda came out of the room all set, ready to leave for school, she was dressed in her all blue uniform, with her white socks and sandals, holding her school bag with her left hand.
She made her way to the exit door, just then ummui came out of the other room, she looked at the retreating back of maijidda, smiling proudly to herself, "maijidda, wait" she called as she made her way to maijidda.
She unwrapped the edge of her wrapper, revealing some money inside.

She took out 50naira and hand it over to maijidda. "take 25naira and give Zahra 25naira, kinji" maijidda creptly took the money from ummi with a wide smile on her face and nodded, she turned, pushed the iron door open, before she moved out she waved to her ummi and went off.
Ummi kept looking at the direction until the iron door cracked close. A smile made its way to her lips as a tear dropped down her cheeks.

"Everything will be fine, Insha Allah" she muttered to herself before retiring back to the house.
Maijidda, after leaving their house, she headed to her friend's house, also their neighbour, she entered the house with a Salam, before she could even enter further into the house, a girl in same age as her, rushed to hug her.
The girl too was dressed in same uniform as maijidda. "Nadia, let's go, kar muyi latti" Nadia nodded and they retired back to the exit door, they went out of the house, having their conversations and talks.
