The closer I got to the sound the higher of a pitch I realised it was. I could tell it was a child in distress but I was beginning to wonder if it was human. I had never heard a child cry because every kid I was ever near was always happy. Maybe it was a human kid, maybe it was a vampire kid, but whatever kind of child it was it was distressed. And I was prepared to help it no matter its type.

It was so dark I could barely find the kid but it also meant that the vampires wouldn't be able to see me and neither would the humans. This was the most freedom I had had in my life. There was nobody to stop me here. I couldn't blame Imogen for running when she got out here, the feeling of freedom was addictive but I had to remember that I had a job to do. I had to find that child before it attracted anyone. Especially the humans. If it was a vampire they would kill it without a second thought and I couldn't let them kill a child just because I was daydreaming- wait. Would it be nightdreaming since it was night? I really needed to focus.

I could tell I was close when a pair of purple eyes met mine. They were wide and scared and coated with a layer of tears. It was definitely a vampire child because no human could have purple eyes. It wasn't in our dna but was one of the obvious signs that someone was a vampire. The closer I got the more I could make out. It looked to be a girl around 5 or 6 and she was hunched against a tree with a scrape on her leg and was covered in mud. Under all the muck you could tell her hair was a strawberry blonde and would be soft and silky if it wasn't wet and grimy. She was checking me for weapons as her eyes landed on my backpack and she tried to move closer to the tree crying louder.

I silently put my finger on my lips to tell her to be quiet as I put my other hand up in the air to show I wasnt a threat. She could probably kill me right now but I don't think she could move with the scrape on her leg. It was bleeding quite a lot and needed to be cleaned before it got infected but I didn't know if vampires were immune to blood loss or not so it was better to be safe then sorry.

I gently got Imogen's back pack off my shoulder and slowly opened it pulling out the first aid kit and my blanket. "I promise I just want to help" my voice was soft and comforting. The last thing I wanted to do was hurt her but I needed to make sure she knew that. "I'm Rose. What ur name?" My voice was soft and light as I waited for her response.

"I-I'm Skylar" her voice was so small I wouldn't have heard it I it wasn't so silent out here. She was looking at the chocolate bar that had slightly fallen out of my bag. I looked over to it and grabbed it out of my bag and slowly moved to give it to her. She was hesitant at first but she slowly grabbed it from my hand with her small soft one. I gave her a small smile that she returned until she looked down trying to open the chocolate bar but to no avail.

I let out a small giggle and her eyes snapped to me. I gave her another smile and held my hand out. "Let me open it for you so you can eat whilst I fix it ur little leg." She gave me a small nod giving it to me with shaky hands. "I promise I won't hurt you Skylar. I just want to help. Ok?" My voice was small as I gave her a small smile to which she let out a small ok. "Are you cold?" I asked as I grabbed the blanket that I had placed on top of the backpack. She nodded and I gently put it around her slowly to which she tensed at at first but instantly melted into the new warmth the blanket gave her.

At that moment I realised that I couldn't give into fate just yet. I needed to make a impact no matter how small so I promised myself that before I succumbed to fate I would make sure Skylar was safe and happy. I didn't care if she was a vampire but I would at least be remembered and not die in vain.
