The school day had just ended, and Aphmau was staying late, again. Except Mr. Ro'meave had asked her to stay back this time.
"Miss Aphmau, you do realize that you're running out of time to pick your topic for the end of year project, right?"
Aphmau sighed, "I know, Mr. Ro'meave. I've been trying, but the topic I have in mind may be too sensitive for the town.."
"Oh? Well, no worries! Go ahead and tell me, I'm sure it's really no issue," Mr. Ro'meave had said, unknowing to the topic she was thinking of. Upon hearing this, Aphmau had sighed and braced herself for whatever drama may occur after telling her teacher.
"Well," She started, "I was thinking about doing my topic on the Lucinda Withers case." She looked down and mumbled a bit at her last words, but the teacher had still heard her.
Mr. Ro'meave had gasped, just slightly. He knew all too well of the trouble this case had caused, since his son, Garroth Ro'meave, was friends with the person deemed the murderer, Melissa Lycan.
The case started four years prior, when Lucinda Withers went missing one night. She was supposed to pick up her parents from some fancy dinner, but when she never did, her parents started to get worried. They called and called her phone all night, although none of the calls ever went through.
At the time, Lucinda was dating Melissa, they seemed like every other happy couple, the little piece of information that nobody knew was, they had been arguing for weeks. This information only came out after the police had searched Lucinda's phone for clues to her murderer. They brought Melissa in for questioning, and obviously she had denied the murderous accusations the cops were putting on her.
Just a few days after Lucinda's murder, Melissa killed herself by an overdose. Before she died, she had texted her mother, Rachel Lycan, "I did it. I'm sorry." And the case was closed.
Ever since that day, the whole town, the whole world even, did everything in their power to shame the Lycan family.
"W-well! If that's what you're thinking of doing, then I guess you should go for it!" Mr. Ro'meave had seemed to force out. Aphmau stood there, shocked in a way.
"Really?" She said, "Perfect, thank you, Mr. Ro'meave!" Aphmau had happily walked away.
Standing alone in the classroom was Garte Ro'meave, who just pondered about why this young girl wanted to do her school project on a murder case.
