It was March 14, Rico's 25th birthday, and Claudine had been preparing for weeks. She wanted to make it the most special birthday ever. She secretly organized a surprise party for Rico, inviting his family and close friends from college. Everyone important to Rico would be there, and Claudine couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when he walked in.
The venue was decorated with simple yet elegant touches—twinkling lights, flowers, and pictures of Rico throughout the years. His family arrived early, bringing in his favorite food, and Claudine made sure everything was perfect.
As everyone gathered in anticipation, Claudine stood by the door, checking her watch. She had told Rico to meet her at the venue for a simple dinner, but what he didn’t know was that a full celebration awaited him inside.
"Do you think he'll be surprised?" Claudine asked one of Rico's friends, laughing nervously.
"Definitely," his friend replied. "You really went all out for this."
Just then, Claudine’s phone buzzed. It was a message from Rico.
“On my way, hunny. Can’t wait to see you.”
Her heart fluttered, and she quickly typed back, “See you soon, birthday boy!”
Minutes later, they heard the sound of Rico’s car pulling up outside. Claudine signaled everyone to hide as she dimmed the lights. She could barely contain her excitement.
Rico walked into the darkened room, calling out, “Clau? Where are you?”
As soon as he stepped in further, the lights flashed on, and everyone jumped out, shouting, “Surprise!”
Rico froze, his eyes wide with shock. Then, a big smile spread across his face as he realized what was happening. “What’s this?” he asked, laughing in disbelief.
Claudine walked up to him, grinning from ear to ear. “Happy birthday, Rico!” she said, throwing her arms around him.
Rico hugged her tightly. “You did all this for me?”
She nodded, pulling back to look at him. “Of course. You deserve it.”
Rico scanned the room, spotting his family, old friends from college, and a few more close friends from work. “This is incredible,” he said, still in awe. “I can’t believe you pulled this off!”
“We’ve been planning for weeks,” Claudine said, teasing him. “You didn’t suspect anything?”
“Not at all!” Rico chuckled. “You’re sneaky, Clau.”
The night went on, and everyone was having a great time. Rico couldn’t stop smiling as he caught up with his friends and family. There was laughter, music, and good food, but Claudine kept stealing glances at Rico, just happy to see him surrounded by the people he loved.
As the evening progressed, it was time for the cake. The lights dimmed again as Claudine brought out a cake adorned with candles, and everyone began singing “Happy Birthday.”
Rico looked genuinely touched as Claudine held the cake in front of him. “Make a wish,” she whispered.
Rico closed his eyes for a moment, then blew out the candles. The room erupted into cheers, and Claudine placed the cake down on the table.
“What did you wish for?” she asked curiously.
Rico smiled at her. “If I tell you, it won’t come true.”
Claudine rolled her eyes playfully. “Fine, keep your secrets.”
The night eventually began to wind down as people said their goodbyes. Rico’s family hugged him tight, thanking Claudine for such a wonderful celebration before they left. Soon, it was just the two of them alone in the now-quiet venue.
