The day at the hospital kept me busy

The day at the hospital kept me busy. I walked into the next ward, greeted by my team of nurses and junior doctors. They were a group of efficient and friendly, always managing to keep the mood light despite the intensity of our work.

" Dr. Singhania, Mrs. Nair is ready for her checkup," one of the nurses said with a smile.

" Great, I'll be there in a minute," I replied, returning her smile as I grabbed the patient's file.

Mrs. Nair was one of my regular patients, a sweet 30 year old woman, was waiting for me. She was in her 3rd trimester, and we had monitoring her closely due to her ae and her complications.

" Good Morning, Dr. Singhania! How are you today?" Mrs. Nair asked, her hands resting on her baby bump.

" Good Morning Mrs. Nair! I am doing well. And how are you and the baby?" I asked her.

" Oh, we're both fine, though I think this little one is eager to come out," she chuckled, her fingers lightly rubbing her belly. She's been kicking all night."

I smiled, glancing at her reports. " That's a good sign. Babies tend to get more active as they get closer to the delivery. I know it can be uncomfortable, but everything look great."

" You're doing great, Mrs. Nair. Just keep following your routine, and before you know it, you will be holding your baby," I assured her.

" I can't wait, Dr. Singhania. Thank you for everything," she said, her eyes filled with gratitude.

During lunch, my best friend ---- Aishwarya Mehta, came towards me.

"So Riya, when are you're sisters coming?" she asked, taking bite of the lunch.

"Yes, They're arriving today evening. It's been months since I saw them," I said to her, taking a sip of my orange juice.

" Sounds like you're in for a fun evening. Don't let the hospital keep you late today," she said.

"I won't," I said. " I'll finish up here and head home as soon as possible," and left from there.

As I walked back to my cabin, a familiar ache surfaced ---- Shravan, my brother.

It had been 15 years since my older brother died, but the pain never truly faded. Brother [ bhaiya ] was everything to us. He had been my protector and the glue that held our family together. I could still remember the day we lost him, how the light of our home vanished.

I often wondered what bhaiya would have been if he was alive. He would have loved Aditya, probably spoiling him rotten. He would have teased Kiara di and offered wisdom to Divya, guiding her through out like an elder brother. But most of all, I missed how he called me " Ri baby ".

The rest of the day went in a blur, as I finished my last patient ---- a young woman in her 1st trimester.
