i walked into the venue with sakari right next to me. it was a dimly lit area with a floral theme. there was a huge nike logo made out of flowers and fairy lights. sakari made me leave my cameras at the hotel so i did what i could with the small digital camera that i snuck in my bag.
"you look pretty." sakari whispered into my ear. my face heated up.
"thank you, you too." i said stepping slightly away from her.

"so do you want to divide and conquer or do this t-"
"we can be separate." i said cutting her off. she nodded and walked away. i went to the bar and got some water then went to one of the standing tables. everything was so branded even the little water bottled had nike checks on them.
"caelan?" someone called. i didn't know no one except sakari so who the fuck... jazlyn come into my view. i mentally rolled my eyes.
"oh hey." i said flatly. her eyes ran over me taking in my outfit.

"you look good, you could throw fits for real." she said smiling.
"thanks." i replied. she tapped the table and was looking around.
"so how do you know s-"
"did you want something from me?" i said cutting her off.
"oh i just wanted to talk? you know mutual friends and all."
"mutual FRIEND, singular."
"you hard as fuck to talk to caelan."
"i don't know you jazlyn." i spoke harshly.
"you so fucking pretty and so fucking rude. ima see you around though." jazlyn said walking away. i sighed and went back to being on my phone. i pulled out the small camera i had and snapped some pictures.

the lights on the ceiling peeked through the foliage, casting various hues of green on the partygoers. i saw some people i knew off social media but i didn't speak to them. i made my way through the whole venue and found a table in the back to sit at. i looked through my camera seeing the pictures i took. they were lacking something but honestly i couldn't put my finger on it.
"can i sit here?"
"yep." i said not looking up from my camera. i just couldn't figure out why they looked so bland. i looked up and found sakari at my table. i was so deep in thought i didn't recognize her voice.
"you having fun?" she asked.

"not really, you?"
"yea me neither... you wanna leave? go get dinner?" sakari asked looking at the partygoers. i took a couple pictures of her and examined them. these look so much better, i thought to myself.
"cae?" sakari called for me snapping me out of my thoughts.
"hm?"
"do you want to leave and get dinner?" sakari asked with a slight laugh.
"oh, yea let's go." i said standing up. sakari and i made our way to the exit but someone stopped sakari. i was over the socialization aspect of this night.
"go get the car from the valet." sakari said to me. i tapped her arm.

she looked down at me. "what?"
"i can't drive stick."
"okay just wait for me, im coming cae." she said. i stood a bit far behind her as she talked to the group of people. she pulled cards from her wallet and handed it to them. she walked back over to me out her arm around my waist as we started to walked out. my face was extremely warm but i ignored it.
"ay sakari!" another voice called.
"oh my gosh bruh." sakari said. out of frustration she squeezed me tightly.
"sakari chill. i'm gonna go outside." i said moving her arm off me. she nodded and went to go talk to jazlyn.

while caelan was outside...

"you didn't say she was your girl." jazlyn says looking past sakari to look at caelan.
"she's not... what did you need?" sakari asked.
"i real life just wanted to catch up with you. you never on my side of town."
"yeaaaa..." sakari said scratching her head. "i be working."
"heard... you tryna go out tonig-"
"im good, i gotta go anyways." sakari said cutting off jazlyn
"you don't have to be weird with me... we was friends modeling together and esp-"
"alright we done here, i gotta go bye."
"man... okay. let me know when you done acting weird." jazlyn said shaking her head and laughing. sakari walked away her eyebrows furrowed.

the present...

i finally saw sakari come out of the building, she was visibly upset. she walked past me and asked the valet for the car. he walked off to go get it. i walked up next to her
"do you want to-"
"later." she said with a flat tone. i nodded and stayed silent yet again on the way to the hotel. she drove fast and blasted music the whole way. at a red light i turned to her. her face was stoic and bare of emotion. i put my hand on her shoulder and rubbed it gently. her face softened and her eyebrows fell.

"i'm fine... i am." she said. she tensed up and started driving again. i moved my hand and stared out the window. i knew this had something to do with jazlyn but i wasn't gonna pry. we got to the hotel and rode the elevator in bare silence.
i started to open my room door and sakari stopped me.
"come in here with me." sakari said. i trailed behind her into her room. i sat at her desk and flipped through my camera. "ima go shower and stuff." sakari said, her voice tired.
"okay me too, do you want me to come back in here after?"
"yea, ima be laying down so just lay down with me."
"oh okay cool." i said. i went to put all my stuff down and found some pyjamas. i showered and got dressed for the night.

i sat on the bed for a bit going through instagram seeing what was going on in texas. absolutely nothing by the way. i knocked on our conjoining door.
"come in." sakari said. i entered her now dim room. i sat down on her bed with my camera.
"why you sitting on the covers? don't be fake shy."
"not faking, look at these with me." i said. i flipped through the pictures explaining to her what i would change.
"didn't i tell you to leave the cameras here?"
"yea but i wanted to take pictures." i yawned and set the camera down on the nightstand. "we didn't even get dinner." i said. i got under the covers with her and stared at the tv. then it hit me, her smell. it was that same cologne from the first time she hugged me.

the baccarat rouge... i moved closer to her. i felt like i was being hypnotized, but in the best way possible. i rested my head on her shoulder and sakari wrapped her arm around me. her scent enveloped me. the tv played but neither of us were watching it. the silence was loud as fuck.
"how long do i have to keep pretending?" sakari asked. her voice made my eardrums elated.
"what are you pretending?" i asked quietly already knowing the answer. sakari used her free hand to turn my head towards her.

"come on caelan man." sakari said with a slight laugh. everything about her was heightened. her smile, voice, and pretty brown eyes... all of it was weighing on me, in the best way possible.
"i- it's not that- i mean-" i stammered my way through.
"can you stop talking for me please?" sakari asked staring into my eyes. "i love being here with you. there is no one else in the universe like you, caelan. you breathe life into me." as sakari spoke i was focused on her lips, they moved in slow motion but her words were in real time. "im going to kiss you." sakari said softly. my eyes widened but i nodded. her lips landed on mine.

her right hand held my face as she deepened the kiss. i melted into her, this was perfect. everything about her was perfect, it was like she was the missing piece to puzzle I had been trying to solve. i pulled away from her as i felt something throbbing.
"you okay?" sakari asked, her eyes looking deep into mine.
"i couldn't be better."
