The early morning light filtered through the blinds in Jack's apartment, casting thin streaks of sunlight over the scattered case files and empty coffee mugs that littered the coffee table. Jack sat on the edge of the couch, his mind still churning from the conversation he and Sarah had shared the night before. The kiss, the spark—it lingered with him, but so did the looming pressure of solving Emily's case.

Sarah had suggested that Emily's death might have been the result of her stumbling onto something dangerous—something tied to Ronan Bishop's financial dealings. It made sense. Emily had gotten too close, and Ronan had silenced her.

A soft knock on his door pulled Jack from his thoughts. Jack stood, running a hand through his hair as he made his way across the apartment. When he opened the door, Sarah stood there, her auburn hair catching the morning light. She was dressed in another tailored outfit, elegant as always, though there was something different about her today—something more relaxed, despite the gravity of their work.

"Morning," she said softly, offering a faint smile.

"I wasn't expecting you this morning," Jack replied, stepping aside to let her in. "Everything all right?"

"I figured we shouldn't waste any time," Sarah said, setting down a small stack of documents on the coffee table. "There's something new."

Jack sat down across from her, his gaze sharp and focused. "What did you find?"

Sarah pulled out a printout and slid it over to him. "I've been digging into the shell companies we found tied to Ronan, and I came across a name on one of the accounts that hasn't shown up before. It's not directly linked to him, but I think this person could be involved."

Jack took the document from her, glancing over the unfamiliar name. "Who is this?"

"I'm not sure yet," Sarah admitted, "but I'm going to find out. Whoever this is, they might be the missing link we need to connect Ronan to Emily's death."

Jack felt a familiar surge of determination welling up inside him. "If this person is connected, they could be the key to proving Ronan's involvement."

Sarah nodded, her green eyes darkening slightly. "Emily could have uncovered something about this person—or this part of Ronan's operation. Maybe that's what got her killed."

Jack leaned back against the couch, his mind racing as he pieced the information together. "We need to figure out who this person is and what role they play in all of this."

Sarah leaned forward, her hand brushing against Jack's as she handed him another document. The contact sent a shiver up his arm, and for a moment, they both paused. The tension from the night before hadn't disappeared, but they both knew there was more at stake than their growing connection.

"Be careful," Sarah said softly, her eyes searching his. "Ronan's not someone to mess with."

Jack gave a small nod, his dark eyes focused. "I know. But if he's responsible for Emily's death, I'm not backing down."

The two of them sat in silence for a moment, the weight of their shared mission heavy between them. Jack knew that they were close to something big, but he also knew that the closer they got to the truth, the more dangerous things would become.

As Sarah stood to leave, she paused by the door, glancing back at him with a soft, unreadable expression. Without a word, she stepped closer, pressing her lips to his in a brief but tender kiss. It was a promise—unspoken but clear—that whatever happened next, they were in this together.

When she pulled back, her hand lingered on his arm for just a moment. "Stay safe, Jack," she whispered.

"I will," Jack replied, his voice steady but his mind reeling. He watched her leave, the warmth of her kiss still lingering, as the door closed behind her.

Jack grabbed his keys and headed out, his mind set on the next step. They were getting closer to the truth, but the shadows surrounding Ronan Bishop were growing darker by the day. And Jack knew that once they crossed the line into his world, there would be no turning back.
