"Alright!" Pearl shouted angrily. "Waking me up and shit.." she grumbled.
She peeled from the couch. A late night of blasting action flicks to drown out the sound of her brother "working" upstairs had forced her to sleep away from the comforts of her bed. The right tendril of her back broke from its barrier and smashed the power button on the TV remote. Pearl scratched sleep out of her eyes and stretched tall, reverting back to a slouch as she approached the door. For their sake, the person beyond the door ceased the repetitive ding of the bell. Lazily, she swung her already exposed tendril at the handle. As soon as the door opened, Pearl immediately woke up and beamed.
"Hello gorgeous," Pearl grinned. She leaned down and planted a long kiss on her girlfriend's lips.
"Hi," Talia said after their embrace. "I'm sorry I didn't come over sooner. I know I said ten.."
"It's chill. Tanner left me be, so that's a plus." She took her hand. After closing the door, Pearl led Talia upstairs. "I was thinking you could cut my hair today. I've got this little set up in my room."
"Sure thing," Talia smiled. She playfully spun her fingers through a lock of hair. "You're finally going to let me play with your hair."
"Yeah, well, it keeps getting in the way of my tendrils. They get all tangled- gah it's so painful." Pearl cringed for affect.
Talia giggled. "I'll fix that right up, sweetheart. Oh- Also, you will not believe what happened this morning. Ace brought over this-"
Talia suddenly stopped climbing. Her attention was at the top of the stairs. Pearl turned to see what startled her.
Of course, Pearl groaned inwardly.
"C'mon," She insisted, dragging Talia up the last few stairs. They were nearly at her bedroom.
Tanner slammed his hand on the wall in between them. It forced Talia to let go of Pearl's hand and halt. He glared at equal height of Pearl, given the few steps he had over her.
There were scratches that stretched from his hands to his wrists. Talia turned to face him after the momentary distraction of his inflictions. Tanner's hair was dishelved. His clothes; a lab coat, use-to-be white tee and slacks; were in disarray. There were heavy bags weighing down his eyes. His eyes.. she became distracted by them. Hazel green, circular, full..- Talia suddenly felt very light headed.
"What the Hell, Tanner?!" Pearl growled. She shoved him into the opposing wall and became a barrier in front of her girlfriend.
"Who is this?" he spoke in a soothing, yet chilling tone.
"Her name is none-of-your-damn business. Now get out of the way," Pearl snapped.
Talia peered over Pearl's right and pointed at his hand. "That must hurt. Looks like scar tissue is forming. Y'know I could heal it right up if you'd like-"
"What have I told you about bringing people inside?" He interjected harshly.
"Didn't seem like a big deal considering how many people you have over," Pearl retorted.
"That's different."
"Ha! Different?" Pearl's tendrils started to form.
"Sweetheart.." Talia whispered. She moved her hands past the slits in Pearl's shirt and gently pressed down on the tendrils.
