Kylie is on her morning shift on patrol, making sure everyone is not driving over the speed limit. But to her suprise a car didn't notice her and drove over the limit.
She quickly turned on the engine, making her way towards the car. She turns on the sirens signalling for the person to pull over.
As the car pulled over she got out of hers and walked over to their window seeing a beautiful young lady with brown curly hair and brown eyes staring directly into hers.
"Good morning miss, you do realise why I pulled you over?" Kylie asked, holding her ticket pad. The girl sighed a little frustrated, but still managed to let her lips form into a small smile giving kylie a firm nod.
"License and registration, please." Kylie continued, as a sigh.
"I'm sorry, officer. Won't happen again," The girl huffed, looking Kylie up and down, leaning back in her car seat. "I wasn't paying attention to how fast I was going. My fault," she hummed.
"Good," Kylie nodded, though the corner of her mouth twitched, betraying the hint of a smirk she was trying to suppress. Her hands, firm on the ticket pad, paused briefly. She let out a soft sigh, clearly trying to maintain her professional demeanor.
The girl raised a brow, still assessing the officer in front of her. There was something different about this encounter. Maybe it was the way Kylie carried herself, a mix of confidence and something more... deliberate. Or maybe it was the way their eyes locked for a fraction longer than it should have during a routine stop. "You really should watch the speed," Kylie added after a beat, her tone softening ever so slightly. Her eyes flicked to the girl's license, still in her hand. "This is a dangerous stretch of road."
"Right. 'Dangerous',” The girl echoed with a playful edge, folding her arms across her chest as she leaned in slightly. "You pull everyone over like this, Officer? Or am I just special?" She huffed. Kylie’s smirk returned, just for a second. "Everyone gets a warning if they deserve it," she replied, her voice steady, though there was an undercurrent of something that felt almost... personal. "Consider this your lucky day."
"Lucky, huh?" The girl retorted, a hint of challenge in her voice. Her eyes flicked once more over Kylie's body, a subtle smirk of her own playing at the corners of her mouth. "Maybe I should get pulled over more often then."
Kylie's grip on the ticket pad tightened briefly, her jaw clenching slightly. She was used to being checked out, it came with the job. But there was something different about this girl’s gaze, something about the way she was looking at her that made her feel... noticed.
"Malia baker...?" Kylie mumbled to herself but the girl heard...
"Yes, that's me officer." She confirmed a sly smile on her face.
"Maybe I get to see you each time.." Malia says gripping the wheel. "I love the view.." Malia said with a smirk dragging the word 'love'.
Kylie's expression remained stoic, but barely. The playful remark got to her, and she was trying to school her features into a neutral expression, but it was an effort she was rapidly losing. She was not used to someone like Malia, with her blatant flirting and sharp tongue. It caught her off guard and made her skin warm. But she was nothing if not a professional, and she refused to show any weakness. Her grip on the ticket pad tightened even further as she cleared her throat.
"Focus, ma'am."
"You're lucky I don't book you for distracted driving," Kylie grumbled, trying to keep her tone stern as she handed the ticket to Malia. Her eyes met Malia's, and for a moment they stayed locked, an almost charged silence between them. The air felt thick, and Kylie found her gaze lingering, her usual cool demeanor cracking just enough to reveal a hint of uncertainty. Damn it..
"Why wouldn't you?" Malia asked grabbing the ticket, softly brushing her hand against kylie's.
"You're already getting a warning," Kylie retorted, trying and failing to keep her voice steady. Her body instinctively stiffened at the touch, her hand tingling where Malia's had brushed against it. She forced her gaze away, focusing intently on her ticket pad, but her fingers fidgeted against the surface, giving away the fluttering feeling that had taken over her insides.
"Consider yourself very lucky," she muttered, her jaw clenching to keep any other embarrassing sounds from leaving her lips.
"Oh I am..." Malia mumbled quietly.
Kylie's cheeks flushed slightly at the comment, and she internally cursed herself for her body's reaction. She was not supposed to be reacting this way. This was a stop, she needed to remain professional, even if Malia was clearly enjoying her little game. Her eyes flicked back up to meet Malia's, and she took a deep breath, willing her voice to remain steady as she spoke.
"Please be more careful in the future," she said, her tone firm, but the wavering in it gave way to the effect Malia had on her.
"Yes, ma'am."
Kylie's heart skipped a beat. That name coming from Malia's mouth in that voice sent a shiver down her spine, a reaction she would have denied happening if anyone had noticed. "Good," she said simply, forcing her eyes away from Malia once more. Dammit, this was not supposed to happen.
She gripped her ticket pad tightly, taking another moment to collect herself before speaking again. "You're free to go."
"see you." Malia said driving off with a wink.
Kylie watched Malia drive away, her heart still thudding loudly in her chest. What the hell was that? It was just a routine stop, for Christ's sake, so why was she reacting like this?
Shaking herself, she grumbled under her breath, mentally scolding herself for the reaction she'd had. It was not acceptable. She was on the job. She was professional. She would not be affected by some random driver with a pretty face and a penchant for flirting. Absolutely not....
That night, Kylie found herself lying in bed, unable to fall asleep. Instead, her mind refused to let the image of Malia go. The cocky smile, the way her hand had felt brushing against hers.. Kylie found herself replaying that moment over and over again in her head, her heart rate always increasing when her memory landed on Malia's smirk. Damn it.
With a heavy sigh, she rolled over, burying her face into her pillow. She needed to stop thinking about Malia. It was a one-off encounter, it meant nothing.
