No one's pov:

Days passed, and Kylie carried on with her duties as officer, yet every now and then her thoughts would slide back to the woman in the car. She'd even catch herself checking the speed of cars just a bit too closely, hoping each time, dreading each time, that she'd see Malia's car amongst them.

Finally, on a particularly quiet day at the station, she found herself alone in the break room, staring down at her cup of coffee. Her thoughts were consumed again by Malia and their last encounter.

Kylie's thoughts were broken by the sudden sound of her phone ringing. She pulled it out, her stomach fluttering when she noticed the unknown number on the screen. She hesitated for a moment, her heart skipping a beat before she answered.

"Hello?"

"Hey, ky it's me ruby." Her bestfriend said on the other line.

Kylie's heart settled a bit, recognizing the voice of her best friend. She sighed in relief, leaning back against the wall.

"Oh, hey Ruby," she greeted, trying to sound casual. "Everything okay?"

"Im good, when does your shift end?"

"Umm, another..." Kylie glanced at the clock on the wall, "...two hours or so." She replied, taking a sip of her now cooled coffee. "Why?"

"Yeah, can't I miss my bestfriend, plus. I've got tea!!" ruby squealed excited.

Kylie rolled her eyes but couldn't help but chuckle at Ruby's enthusiasm. "Fine, fine, I'll pass by," she relented, grinning. "But this better be some good tea, Ruby.

Those last two hours of Kylie's shift felt like an eternity. Her thoughts kept drifting to the prospect of what Ruby had to share. She'd called it 'tea', so it had to be something juicy. Each time her mind started wandering back to the thoughts of Malia, however, she'd force herself to focus on the work in front of her.

Finally, finally, the clock hit 6, and her shift ended. With a sigh of relief, Kylie gathered her things and headed out to her car.

The drive to Ruby's felt both torturously slow and too quick at the same time. Every red light seemed to take an eternity, and yet the journey felt over in the blink of an eye. Kylie's thoughts were a chaotic mix of curiosity and anticipation, and her knuckles were white from clutching the steering wheel.

As she pulled up to Ruby's house, she took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves. She could hear music blaring from inside already, and a small smile tugged at her lips. Same old Ruby.

Stepping out of her car, Kylie made her way up the path and knocked loudly on the front door.

"Kylie!!!" The door swung open, and as soon as ruby saw kylie she jumped on her.

"Oof!" Kylie grunted, stumbling back as Ruby barreled into her. She laughed, wrapping her arms around her best friend and squeezing her tight. "Hey there, Rubes."

"Girl come in!"

Kylie chuckled, allowing herself to be pulled into the house by Ruby. It was typical Ruby, straight into the fun without a moment's pause. She shut the door behind them as she was led through the hall and into the living room.

"Alright, so what's this 'tea' you've got in store for me?" she asked, flopping down onto the couch.

"So.. i've been seeing this guy... his name's joshua and he's such a cutie!" Ruby said as she sat next to kylie.

Kylie's interest piqued. "Oh? Do tell."

She made herself comfortable, crossing her legs on the couch and facing Ruby, an expectant smile on her face.
