It was a usual busy day at the office, with everyone focused on their tasks. Mira had left earlier in the day for a work-related meeting. Time passed, and Samar was deeply engrossed in his work when Roshan approached him, his expression concerned.
"Samar, do you know where Mira is? She hasn't returned yet, and it's been hours," Roshan said, worry evident in his voice.
Samar's head snapped up, alarm washing over him. "What do you mean she hasn't returned? Did you try calling her?"
Roshan nodded. "Yes, I tried, but her phone is switched off. I thought maybe she was with you or delayed, but now... I'm worried."
Samar's heart dropped. His mind raced, trying to figure out where Mira could be. He immediately dialled her number, but just like Roshan said, it went straight to voicemail. Panic started to creep into his chest.
"I'll go check the place where she was supposed to go," Samar said, already standing up and grabbing his jacket.
Roshan followed him, both of them rushing to leave the office. When they reached the location where Mira was supposed to be, Samar asked around, hoping someone had seen her. But no one had. It was as if she had vanished without a trace.
"She never came here," one of the employees at the meeting location confirmed, adding to Samar's growing panic. His thoughts spiralled as he tried to make sense of what was happening. Where was Mira?
The hours passed by in a blur as Samar, Roshan, and even some of their other colleagues, including Roger and Saam, searched tirelessly for Mira. They checked every possible place she might have gone, retraced her steps, and called anyone who might know her whereabouts, but there was no sign of her. Samar couldn't sleep, couldn't think straight. The fear of losing her consumed him, and he was beginning to feel hopeless.
By the time the sun rose the next day, Samar was a wreck. His exhaustion and fear had turned into frustration and anger, which spilled over as soon as he stepped into the office. He barked orders at his staff, his temper flaring at the smallest things. Every second that passed without Mira was a dagger to his heart.
Roshan tried to calm him down, but Samar's anger was uncontrollable. His mind was a storm of anxiety, and the thought that something had happened to Mira kept gnawing at him.
Finally, one of the employees, tired of Samar's outbursts, couldn't hold back anymore. He stood up and shouted, "Why are you so angry over her? After all, she's just an employee, like the rest of us! Why are you treating us like this because of her?"
Samar froze. His entire body tensed as the words sank in. He turned to face the employee, his eyes dark and furious. In a split second, Samar marched over to him, grabbed him by the collar, and pulled him close.
"She's not just an employee," Samar hissed, his voice low and dangerous. His grip tightened on the employee's collar, and everyone in the office was watching in shocked silence. "She's my wife!"
The room fell into stunned silence, the air thick with disbelief. People exchanged wide-eyed glances, murmuring among themselves. The news hit like a bombshell—no one could believe what they had just heard.
"Your wife?" someone whispered in disbelief.
Samar let go of the employee, pushing him back roughly. His chest heaved with a mix of anger and fear. He didn't care anymore—he was too worried about Mira to keep up any pretences. She was his wife, and she was missing. That was all that mattered.
Roshan quickly stepped in, pulling Samar into his office and shutting the door behind them. "What are you talking about, Samar? Is this true?" Roshan asked, his voice filled with confusion and concern.
Samar ran a hand through his hair, pacing the room. "Yes, it's true, Roshan. Mira... Mira is my wife. We got married a while ago. It was a marriage of convenience, but things have changed. I love her, Roshan, and now she's missing."
Roshan stared at him, his mind reeling. "I can't believe it. All this time... you never said anything."
Samar sighed, his anger slowly giving way to despair. "I didn't want anyone to know. It was supposed to be private. But now... now I don't care. I just want to find her, Roshan. I can't lose her."
Roshan placed a hand on Samar's shoulder, trying to offer some comfort. "We'll find her, Samar. We'll search everywhere if we have to. Don't lose hope."
But even as Roshan tried to reassure him, the weight of the situation pressed down on Samar's chest. He had finally realized how much Mira meant to him, how deeply he loved her—and now, she was gone.
The day dragged on, filled with tense silence and unanswered calls. Every passing minute felt like an eternity. Samar sat in his office, staring at his phone, hoping, praying that Mira would walk through the door or call him, telling him everything was okay.
Suddenly, the door to his office swung open, and Samar jumped to his feet, his heart racing. "Mira!" he called out, hopeful that she had returned.
But as his eyes adjusted to the figure in the doorway, it wasn't Mira standing there. It was Jennifer.
Samar's face immediately fell in disappointment. "Jennifer," he muttered, his voice flat.
Jennifer stepped into the room, her expression unreadable. "I'm sorry, Samar. I'm not the one you were waiting for," she said, her tone calm but carrying an edge of something hidden. "But I know where Mira is."
Samar's entire body stiffened. His eyes locked onto Jennifer's, his heart suddenly thundering in his chest. "What did you say?" he demanded, his voice rising in urgency. "You know where Mira is?"
Jennifer nodded, keeping her gaze steady on Samar. "Come with me, and I'll take you to her."
Without hesitation, Samar grabbed his jacket and followed Jennifer out of the office. His mind raced as they hurried to the car. Jennifer remained silent as they drove, her focus entirely on the road ahead.
Samar's anxiety grew with every passing minute. "Jennifer, where is Mira? Tell me!" he asked, his voice tense with fear. But Jennifer didn't respond. She kept her eyes forward, driving further out of the city, and the silence only deepened Samar's worry.
Frustration bubbled up inside him as they drove for what felt like hours. "Jennifer, where is she?!" Samar demanded, gripping the edge of his seat. When Jennifer still didn't answer, Samar's patience finally snapped.
"Stop the car!" he shouted, reaching for the door handle, ready to force it open.
Jennifer suddenly hit the brakes, Samar glared at her, his hand still on the door, ready to break free and find Mira himself.
Jennifer turned to face him, her expression calm but serious. "Samar, relax. Don't worry—Mira is safe. She's with me. I'm the one who took her yesterday."
Samar froze, his mind struggling to comprehend what Jennifer had just said. "You took Mira?" His voice was filled with confusion and disbelief.
Jennifer's car skidded to a stop, and Samar threw open the door, stepping out, his heart pounding as if it might break through his chest. Every word Jennifer had said echoed in his mind. He had no time to waste—Mira was about to leave him.
He began running, his legs burning with every step as he rushed back to their home, hoping he wouldn't be too late.
