It has been an hour since I almost finished my shift, I had one patient in the E.R to admit to a ward and then I would have been done for the day, that was until we had a notification of an ambulance arriving in 2 minutes with a 13 year old and Arizona asked if I could just help get them into a trauma bay as the hospital was extremely busy and there were very little doctors available to help

Riley Bishop, 13 years old, fell down a flight of stairs in school. I knew it was her straight away, we had never met but I had been dating Maya for almost 6 months, she talked about her daughter all the time and I had seen pictures.

I froze momentarily but gathered myself and rushed her inside, she was unconscious but breathing and Dr Bailey quickly took over for me "it's Riley Bishop" I told her "Maya's Riley" I confirmed, Dr Bailey was one of the only people at the hospital who knew about Maya and I dating as her husband worked with Maya at the fire station. "We've got her, find out if Maya is on the way", I nodded making my way back into the E.R.

I spotted the lady who had gotten out of the ambulance behind Riley "excuse me, I'm Dr DeLuca, has her mom been informed? Is she on her way?" I ask and she shakes her head "no answer unfortunately, we have contacted her auntie who is but she's about an hour away", without thinking I ask "which one?" And her eyes shine with confusion "we know Riley and her mom Maya, she works at the fire station and run the aid cars which transfer to this hospital, so I just wondered which auntie" I explain and thankfully she understands "Andy Herrera" I thank her and let her know we'll come back with any news.

"Can you get Andy's number from Ben?" I ask Bailey quietly and she nodded "take over here for me and I will, she's stable, Robbins is leading just stay with her" I nod and take Riley's hand in mine. Checking we are the only ones in the room I place my other hand on her cheek "it's ok bambina, we are going to find mommy for you".

Bailey returned with Arizona and Meredith "I couldn't get hold of Ben but Meredith has Andy's number" Bailey told me, I quickly followed Meredith "so you and Bishop?" She asked quickly "yeah almost 6 months" I smile thinking of the woman who had stolen my heart, she noticed my smile "Andy will find her, don't worry" I nod and take Andy's number from her. Thankfully she picked up immediately "Andy it's Carina", "I am on my way, where is Maya?" She asked, "I don't know, look Riley is going for a scan and then probably straight into surgery, so please just go look for Maya instead, she's going to need her when she wakes up" I ask, pleading with her "ok, but you don't leave her side, that's my niece in there, I'm trusting you Carina" she warns "I promise, I have her, I'll protect her at all costs" she stays silent for a moment "I'll call as soon as I have her" she agrees "and I'll keep you updated" we bid fare well and I head back into Riley.

She was still unconscious but I stood at her side "are you going to stay until Bishop arrives?" Arizona questions and I nod "si, I promised Andy" I confirm "can I ask what you think, professionally? I said I'd give Andy an update as she's the next contact behind Maya", she looked up from her tablet "broken ribs, looks like a partial collapsed lung from rib puncture, some free fluid in the abdomen but just waiting on Amelia for a neuro exam, she was unconscious for at least 30 minutes so we aren't heading to theatre until she's got a head CT" I quickly head outside and call Andy to give her an update, promising her once again that I have Riley and for her to focus on Maya.

Only Arizona was stood with Riley when I got back, I quickly walked and took Riley's hand back into my own "Tia Andy is going to find her, don't you worry" I whisper, knowing Arizona's eyes are on me. Arizona and I were together previously, we dated for a little while but we weren't officially together, it was more of a sexual arrangement. "So Maya Bishop?" She questioned and I felt my cheeks flush "um yeah kinda" I laugh nervously "you so have a type" she laughed "says you" I fire back and she shrugs. "I hope it works out for you" she says genuinely and I smile "me too, it's still early days, not public knowledge" she nods understanding "I didn't expect this to be the first time I meet her" I say gazing towards Riley "I'm sure Maya will appreciate that your here for her, I know 19 trust us but your here for Riley, not as a doctor" I feel Riley's hand move in my own "hi sweetheart, can you open your eyes for me" I ask and both Arizona and I stand at her side "that's it, good girl" her eyes look around and panic takes over "your ok, your safe" I tell her "m..om" she asks "ssssh don't try to talk, she will be here soon sweetheart, you rest" her eyes meet mine and I give her the most reassuring smile I have.
