~~~~~~~~~~~~"hi! i'm chucky! wanna play?"
Karen's fingers worked to button up the small winter jacket adorning Andy's little body since the snow outside was rather heavy this year. She attempted a smile towards him but the boy seemed distracted and incredibly disappointed, though he tried to hide that. (Y/n) frowned as she sensed the lingering sadness from this morning and she wished she could take it all away.
"What's wrong, Andy?" Karen asked as she noticed her son's gloomy eyes and downturned frown. He'd always been a rather happy child so she instantly knew something was wrong.
"This is my first birthday without him, isn't it?" Andy's question sent a shatter down both Karen and his older sister's hearts. It had been a year already since their father had passed away due to an accident and it was hard to deal with. It surely took (Y/n) awhile to find ground without her father here with her but she knew it was also hard on their mother, who was now having to adapt as a single parent.
Karen frowns as she gathers the boy's backpack and gently places it onto his shoulders. "Yes, it is" She answers, voice dripping with melancholy.
"Why can't he be here?" Andy's voice cracked, causing (Y/n) to lay her hands atop his fluffy brown hair as she ruffled it in comfort.
"Dad would be so proud of how grown you are already, sport. I mean...making breakfast all on your own? That's definitely big kid stuff" (Y/n) smiled brightly at him as she grasped one of his hands and exited the apartment building, wandering down the snowy streets.
After dropping her brother off at school, (Y/n) was busy working in the department store with her mother. It was a rather busy day for them but Karen insisted on taking care of everything since Andy's question must've really bothered her and she seemed to want as many distractions as she possibly could have.
Karen was busily checking stock as she watched her best friend, Maggie Peterson, rush up to her with a half smoked cigarette still sitting on her lips. Her hair was red and curly and she had a slight rasp to her voice since she was a little older. She was always really kind with (Y/n) though and she appreciated the friendship she could provide for her mother.
"Karen. (Y/n). You know that doll you wanted for Andy, the one that costs over a hundred bucks?" Maggie asked, popping some gum into her mouth as she stomped on her cigarette to put it out.
(Y/n) beamed. "Uh huh! Sup, Maggie!" She greeted as she went back to writing up some new stock items for their store.
"A play pal?" Karen asked, staring at her best friend in confusion.
