Five years ago...

"Shinobu?!" Hikari's yellow eyes sparkled, her blonde hair resting on her hoari.

"Yes." The black purple tipped haired demon slayer sighed at her comrade, as she scowled a bit.

"A form capable of an explosion like a star's supernova!! And I could pull it off!" Hikari looked like she was going to explode. "Let's try it out, right now!!"

"We should check with Kanae first." Shinobu stood up from her desk which was covered in books and ink. Hikari knew that she'd been working on the form for a while after the Nova user had suggested it.

"Got it!" Hikari gave a firm nod with a bright smile. "Come on, Shinobu, smile a bit! You've helped me create one of the strongest styles known to humankind." Hikari nudged her playfully, and Shinobu gave her a small sigh before she walked out of the room, Hikari close behind her.

"Strongest, yes. Although balanced is another story." Shinbou sighed as her sister trailed behind her like a duckling, despite being a year older than her. They entered Kanae's room and approached the Flower Hashira.

"Kanae-san, I want to try out the new form that Shinobu helped me make!" Hikari ran up to her mentor, giving her pleading eyes.

"Oh. I suppose it's alright, just be careful, okay?" She gave the blonde a pat on the head and Hikari nodded, grabbing Shinbou's hand and rushing out of the room.

"Thank you, Kanae-san!" They both ran out into the forest, Hikari knew better than to use Nova Breathing at the mansion.

"Hikari slow down!" Shinobu yelled at her, and Hikari did as she was told. Sometimes she forgot how much she had grown, and how short her sister had remained.

"Sorry! I'm just excited." She gave her a large smile, Hikari found it hard not to be happy. She was always happy with them, they had filled the hole in her heart that had been left by her family, and someone needed to make up for how little Shinobu smiled. "Okay, we should be okay here." She stopped in a clearing and walked to the center. Shinobu stayed a good distance back. "Nova Breathing, Fifth form..." Hikari focused her energy on her blade, feeling the searing hot power coursing through her veins as she took an inhale, when she exhaled it was sparks and black dust. "Super Nova!" Suddenly Hiakri let go of the power in the blade, allowing it to blast in every direction.

The light was blinding, and Hikari had to clench her sword tighter, trying not to allow her energy to destroy her in the process of exploding. She was successful to an extent, but she felt her skin burn as she fell to the ground, exhaustion washing over her as she fell to the charred grass underfoot.

"HIKARI!" The scream of Shinbou was the last thing Hikari heard before blacking out...
