Chapter 3: Rising Up in the New World

Third pov:

Naruto woke with the morning light filtering through the trees, casting gentle shadows over his makeshift camp. The chirping of birds and the soft rustle of leaves were his only companions. He rubbed his eyes, groggily sitting up and stretching his muscles after a long night of sleep. His mind was already racing. He knew he couldn't stay hidden forever, and he needed to figure out how to blend in. The shadow clones had already gathered some basic information, but there was still so much to learn. More importantly, he needed to survive. His stomach rumbled, reminding him of the food he had stashed away. It wasn't much—just some rice balls and dried fish he had scavenged in the first few days. As he ate, his mind wandered to what he would do next. Tokyo was unlike any place he'd ever been, with its tall skyscrapers and busy streets. The clothes were strange, too—no one wore anything like his shinobi gear. After finishing his meal, he stood and stretched once more, planning his day.

Naruto-*mutters* "Alright, I've got to start blending in better."

So with that Naruto begins to rummage through a large scroll he'd packed before leaving his world, pulling out various outfits. It took a moment, but he found something suitable for his new life: a black hoodie, a fitted black T-shirt, some jeans that were baggier than he was used to, and his modified ninja boots. They looked just like normal shoes but retained the agility and grip of shinobi footwear. Fully dressed, Naruto looked himself over in a small mirror. He smirked, pulling the hood over his head.

Naruto-*mutters*"I think I can pass."

Next came his real task for the day: gathering resources. He made fifty shadow clones, each with a specific purpose. He dispatched ten of them to roam the city under disguise, using transformation jutsus to blend in with the locals and quietly pickpocket enough money to cover his basic needs. He sent the other forty to the local library. Their mission? To read. They would absorb as much information as possible about this world—its history, laws, and customs. Naruto knew he needed knowledge if he wanted to survive. Over the course of three months, Naruto gradually adapted to his new life in Tokyo. In the first month, his clones scoured the city for information, and Naruto himself discovered how to obtain Japanese citizenship. Using a fabricated story, he explained that he had been raised in the forested mountains by his family and was alone after they disappeared on a sailing trip. His story was met with sympathy and after a few weeks, Naruto had managed to become a legal citizen of Japan.

To avoid raising suspicion, Naruto faked his birth year, adjusting it to match the timeline of this universe. Once he became a citizen, there was another obstacle: schooling. He didn't want to be tied down by regular classes, so he convinced the officials that he had been homeschooled his entire life. After a series of placement exams, Naruto surprised them all by scoring between 80% and 90% on each test, earning his high school diploma in just one week. By his third month, Naruto had fully immersed himself in this new world. While his clones tirelessly studied the city and its people, Naruto found another way to sustain himself: saving people, training, or writing. Among the many scrolls he had brought from his world were complete copies of Jiraiya's books. Remembering his grandfather's success as a novelist, Naruto decided to adopt that same path, rewriting Jiraiya's works under the pen name Jiraiya Senju which was meant to honor both him and his late grandmother. He also began developing his own series, writing stories of adventure, mystery, and heroism, based on the shinobi world but adapted for this universe and never involved mentioning chakra or his abilities so that his enemies never could figure out his weakness by reading his books.

He used the memories of his loved ones to help him make them but always made sure to tweak them a bit To his surprise, his books became popular. He opened a bank account and started to see the fruits of his labor. Soon, Naruto became a well-known mystery author that no one has ever seen but loved to read the books he made, selling copies worldwide. But that wasn't all Naruto had been doing. As he walked the streets of Japan, he began to notice how different this country was in disturbingly lacking heroes like other places like America where many heroes seem to be resized. The crime was rampant in the shadows, and there was no system of shinobi to protect the people of Japan and no heroes who were heroes to help Japan did not have their own Green Arrow or Batman nor did they have their own Superman. Naruto couldn't just stand by and watch. So in the dead of night, he would don a hooded cloak and mask to patrol the streets, using his shinobi skills to stop thieves, muggers, rapists, and gangsters.

His natural speed, natural strength, and skills allowed him to operate in secret, preventing anyone from seeing his true identity and helping people. Whenever he helps people he has not once used his chakra as he trying to conserve it and regain the chakra level he lost from traveling here and from the three months of every day making shadow clones. He became a ghostly figure, whispered about in the media but never caught on camera. It didn't take long for rumors of a mysterious hero to spread across Japan, though no one knew his name or face. They called him "The Phantom," a figure who appeared out of nowhere to stop criminals and then vanished before anyone could thank him. One night, after returning from a successful patrol, Naruto sat on a rooftop, overlooking the city. The lights of Tokyo stretched out before him, a vast sea of shimmering buildings. Despite his achievements, a sense of loneliness crept over him. He missed his friends, his family, the people he had lost. The memory of his battle with Kaguya, and Kurama's departure, still weighed heavily on his heart.

Naruto-*Lying down on the cold, hard rooftop, he whispered into the night the same fraze he does every night* "It won't be easy. I don't know how things will turn out... but I promise, no matter what, I'll survive. I'll make sure your sacrifices weren't in vain."

Most may find it annoying or concerning that he repeats that same thing every night but by doing so he can force himself to continue living on for another day. With that, Naruto closed his eyes, allowing himself to rest, knowing that tomorrow would bring new challenges—and new opportunities. Tomorrow he plans to start the process to get citizenship in other countries as well as get one for America and maybe some other places around the world. Though his home is now and always will be Japan he believes it will be a good idea to have citizenship in other countries as well just in case so that he can always have a safe house somewhere.
