I stood there, frozen, watching as Obi-Wan charged at Maul. The anger and sorrow on Obi-Wan's face were palpable as he clashed with the Sith Lord, their lightsabers crackling with energy. Maul, ever composed, blocked each of Obi-Wan's strikes with ease, his face filled with that same smug grin that made my blood boil.
This was it. The fight was about to reach its climax, just like in the movie. And there wasn't much I could do—at least, that's what I thought.
Obi-Wan fought like a man possessed, pushing Maul back with a fury born of Qui-Gon's death. But Maul was relentless. His double-bladed lightsaber spun in arcs, forcing Obi-Wan onto the defensive. In a sudden, brutal motion, Maul disarmed Obi-Wan, sending his lightsaber tumbling into the deep vent shaft below.
I winced. This was exactly how it played out in the movie, and I knew what came next—Obi-Wan would be dangling over the shaft, defenceless, while Maul prepared to deliver the killing blow.
And sure enough, with a quick strike, Maul sent Obi-Wan flying backwards into the vent shaft. Obi-Wan managed to grab hold of a small ledge, hanging on for dear life as Maul stood over him, his sabre humming ominously.
This was the part where Maul would gloat, grinning like the sadistic jerk he was, savouring his victory before striking the final blow.
But this time, I wasn't just a spectator. This time, I was here, and I wasn't going to let that smirk of his last for long.
As Maul's focus shifted completely to Obi-Wan, a grin spreading across his face, I saw my chance. He was too caught up in his moment of triumph to notice me moving. I didn't have a lightsaber in hand, but that didn't matter.
With Maul distracted, I bolted forward, closing the distance between us in a flash. As I reached him, he glanced up, his smirk quickly fading as he realized I was coming at him.
I didn't waste time. With all the strength I could muster, I tackled Maul, slamming into him from the side just as he was about to strike Obi-Wan down. The impact sent us both sprawling, Maul's lightsaber flying from his grip as sparks flew from the force of our collision.
"What the—!" Maul snarled, trying to regain his balance as I shoved him back.
I felt the heat from his lightsaber as it clattered to the ground, and I quickly rolled to the side, scrambling to my feet. Maul glared at me, his rage evident as he snarled, his composure slipping for just a second.
"You're gonna regret that," I muttered, raising my blaster and firing a quick volley at him, forcing him to dodge. The blaster bolts didn't do much—they barely slowed him down—but they kept him from regaining control of the situation.
Obi-Wan, still hanging by a thread, looked up at me with a mixture of surprise and urgency. His gaze flickered to Qui-Gon's lightsaber, which lay not far from where Maul had knocked it aside earlier.
This was it—the moment.
With Maul distracted by me, Obi-Wan gathered his strength and leapt up from the ledge, flipping through the air toward Qui-Gon's lightsaber. Maul, realizing what was happening, snarled and tried to recover, but it was too late.
Obi-Wan caught the sabre mid-air, igniting it in one smooth motion. He landed directly in front of Maul, his face set in grim determination.
With a swift strike, Obi-Wan sliced through Maul's double-bladed lightsaber, leaving him defenceless. Maul's eyes widened in shock, and before he could react, Obi-Wan swung again, this time cutting through Maul's midsection.
Maul's face twisted in disbelief as he tumbled backwards into the vent shaft, his body falling away into the darkness below.
For a moment, everything was still. The sound of the lightsaber's hum echoed through the chamber as Obi-Wan stood there, breathing heavily, his face filled with both relief and sorrow.
I stood up slowly, my blaster still in hand, looking down at the shaft where Maul had disappeared. "Well... that was close," I muttered, my heart still pounding from the rush of adrenaline.
Obi-Wan deactivated Qui-Gon's lightsaber and turned to me, his expression softened. "You saved me," he said, his voice quiet but filled with gratitude.
I shrugged, holstering my blaster. "Just being an annoying distraction," I smirked, though it didn't feel like much of a victory.
Obi-Wan's eyes shifted to Qui-Gon's still form, his face filled with grief. "Qui-Gon..." he whispered, kneeling beside his fallen master.
I stood back, giving Obi-Wan a moment. There wasn't much I could say. This was how it had to happen—it was how it played out in the movie. But seeing it here, in real life... it hit differently.
