Third Person's POV ~
Jungkook's fingers hovered over his phone, the screen glowing faintly in the dark room. He had been dreaming—fragments of his university days flickered through his mind like an old film. The soft ringing pulled him back to reality, a gentle vibration against his pillow.
Unknown number.
His brows furrowed. He was used to late-night calls, but something about this one felt different. His heart picked up its pace as he hesitated, then swiped to answer.
"Hello?" he muttered groggily, rubbing his eyes.
There was a brief pause, a sound of shallow breathing on the other side, and then...
"Jungkook... is that you?"
That voice. He knew it immediately. His heart clenched, and for a moment, he couldn't speak. It had been years, but he would recognize Taehyung's voice anywhere. The same voice that once filled the halls of the university with laughter. The same voice that haunted his dreams ever since he left.
"Taehyung?" Jungkook's voice cracked slightly, a flood of emotions crashing over him.
"Yeah... It's me. I'm sorry for calling like this. I got your number from Seojoon."
Seojoon. Jungkook felt a jolt of surprise at the mention of their old friend. His mind raced back to the day everything fell apart—three years ago. He had left Korea, left everything behind, after that night when his Only best-Friend betrayed him .
Jungkook took a breath. "Why... why are you calling now?"
There was a heavy silence before Taehyung spoke again, his voice softer, almost fragile. "Seojoon's in the hospital. He's not doing well. He... he wants to see you. It's serious, Jungkook."
The news hit Jungkook like a punch to the gut. Seojoon—the same Seojoon who had shattered his heart—was now asking to see him? A mix of anger and confusion twisted inside him, but there was something in Taehyung's voice, something that made it impossible for him to refuse.
"I'll come," Jungkook finally said, his throat tightening. "I'll be there."
The flight to Korea was long, but Jungkook barely felt the hours pass. His thoughts were consumed by memories of the past—the friendship, the secret love, the betrayal. He hadn't seen Taehyung or Seojoon since their graduation. The pain of leaving them had been unbearable, but he had no choice. He had to protect his love for Taehyung and the fragile friendship they had built.
When he arrived at the hospital, Jungkook's heart was pounding in his chest. The familiar scent of antiseptic and the soft hum of the hospital hallways did little to calm him. He stopped outside Seojoon's room, bracing himself for what was to come.
He wasn't prepared.
There, sitting by the window, was Taehyung. His back was turned, but Jungkook would recognize that silhouette anywhere—the soft curve of his shoulders, the tousled hair falling into his eyes. Three years had passed, yet Taehyung still looked the same. Time had only made him more beautiful.
Jungkook took a step forward, and Taehyung turned. Their eyes met.
"Jungkook..."
There were no words to describe the flood of emotions in that single moment. Neither moved for what felt like an eternity. Then, with a small, almost shy smile, Taehyung stood up.
"You came," he whispered, as if he couldn't believe it himself.
Before Jungkook could respond, the door behind him opened, and Seojoon appeared. He looked pale, his once energetic self now weak and frail. The sight of his old friend in such a state sent a pang through Jungkook's chest.
"Jungkook," Seojoon greeted with a weak smile. "I'm glad you came. We need to talk. Alone."
They sat in the quiet room, Seojoon leaning against the pillow, his voice barely above a whisper. Jungkook stayed silent, waiting for him to speak.
"I was selfish," Seojoon began, his eyes filled with regret. "Back then... I lied. I saw the way Taehyung was falling for the person behind those letters, and I... I wanted him for myself. I told him it was me. I didn't think about how much it would hurt you."
Jungkook's hands clenched into fists. The pain of that night came rushing back, the image of Taehyung hugging Seojoon, believing his lies. But now, seeing Seojoon like this—so broken, so vulnerable—Jungkook couldn't bring himself to hold on to the anger.
"I've lived with that guilt ever since," Seojoon continued. "But now... I don't have much time left, Jungkook. The doctors... they don't think I'll make it."
Jungkook's breath caught in his throat. "Seojoon..."
"There's something I need to ask you. My last wish." Seojoon's eyes met his, pleading. "I want you to marry Taehyung."
Jungkook's heart stopped. He stared at Seojoon, unable to process what he had just heard.
"Taehyung... he loves you, Jungkook. Even if he doesn't know it yet, he's been waiting for you. Please... it's my last wish."
Jungkook was speechless, his mind reeling. The weight of Seojoon's words pressed down on him. Marry Taehyung? After everything that had happened?
Seojoon reached out, his frail hand gripping Jungkook's wrist. "Please. For me... and for Taehyung."
