I never thought that it would be so difficult to simply follow some delinquents secretly, but I never counted in that I would want to pounce on them at any second.
"Get a grip or I will leave you behind."
My eyes drifted up to Killua on one of the rooftops, who was hissing quietly through the mic of his phone. I smiled cheekily in return.
"Calm down, I wouldn't want you to come back for me anyways."
This answer didn't seem to calm him down in any way. Well, I was indirectly saying that I would happily jump into the open mouth of a wolf if the opportunity offered itself.
Even if it meant risking our cover.
His uncertainty was making me grin even wider and Gon was listening to us with his big brown eyes watching our bickering. A small pout informed me that he almost felt left out which made me giggle in return.
"You two act way too casual for this mission..."
"Don't worry, Killua. We are watching our every move." Gon reassured him and smiled widely at me in return. I winked only with amusement.
"Right...remember, the next time your phone rings, it means turn back. Take care."
The beeping noise on the other line indicated that Killua ended the call. Gon and I quickly splitted up to follow the two targets at different positions to be less obvious. Covering every angle was pretty important for our survival.
With every step our surroundings slowly changed. From a really busy and lively street to more poverty and unsettling quietness. My eyes drifted over the homeless kids sitting at the edges of the sidewalk and I couldn't help but frown slightly. Drifting off into my own childhood would do no good at this exact moment but I was just too captivated by the raw tragedy right in front of our eyes.
My senses started to spike up when an unsettling feeling crawled up my spine. Even my hair stood a little up but I kept my gaze focused forward, eyeing both of the Troupe members to make sure they hadn't noticed me. What was that? It just felt as if their eyes were on me, causing the tingling sensation of dozens of spiders running across my skin. My instincts forced me to stop in my tracks, right in the middle of the street where almost no one was. I wasn't even acting subtle when I looked around the area. If someone was following us, they definitely would have noticed now that I also have noticed them. Completely going off instincts here by the way.
"Fuck-" My head whipped back around again. I couldn't lose track of the boys and the two spiders. Luckily, I still caught sight of them before they would have made their way out of my vision. Gon and Killua were jumping across the rooftops and I quickly catched up to them with a heavy sigh. Soon they were out of my sight again. We were forced to take different paths when the two targets casually walked into a more isolated area. Pretty suspicious to me.
I was actually waiting for my phone to ring at any second, but nothing. Killua wanted to keep going? Although this could be a very deadly trap? Not like I was complaining, knowing myself I probably would've kept going even if he sent the go to run. I made sure to hide behind one of the empty buildings that encased the open courtyard, in the middle stood the two spiders. Obviously waiting for something, but it was unclear to me if it was for us or someone else.
My eyes darted around the area with slight paranoia. I also checked everything behind me and above me, but no one was in sight. Except the weak scent of Gon and Killua, I couldn't depict anything else and so I slipped through one of the backdoors from the empty building as soon as I heard the ringing of a phone.
━━━❝ 3rd person POV
"Hey Phinks."
They were doomed. It was over. From the moment of that phone ringing, everything was turned upside down and now Killua was stuck between two members of the Phantom Troupe after he tried to escape.
