W O N Y O U N G
"Sunoo!" my eyes widened as soon as my eyes landed on Sunoo, standing behind Sunghoon with his usual bright and cheeky smile. His face lit up in recognition as soon as I called his name. I couldn't help but feel excited and skipped in his direction to give him a small hug. Sunoo's vibrant and warm vibe never changed; he is still the same Sunoo I got along with backstage at Music Bank during their Future Perfect: Pass the Mic promotions. He might have changed his haircut and style just a bit, but still the same old Sunoo.
“Woah, you weren't that thrilled when you saw me,” Sunghoon mumbled. Both Sunoo and I looked in his direction, but this guy just shrugged his shoulders in response.
"Wonyoungie, look at these! They have the gummy worms in neon colors!" Leeseo exclaimed, holding up a jar like she had discovered a hidden treasure. She stopped in her tracks as soon as she saw Sunghoon and Sunoo standing beside me.
“Yay! You guys are finally here.” Leeseo exclaimed but quickly covered her mouth upon realizing what she just said. “Uhm, I mean. Woah, I didn't expect to see you here, Sunghoon and Sunoo sunbae.” she let out a small, slightly awkward giggle as she made an awful attempt to adjust her tone.
I quickly catch on with whatever Leeseo is up to. I love her with all my heart, but goodness, she's a terrible actress. My eyes landed on Sunghoon and he seemed clueless, scratching the back of his nape with a confused expression written all over his face. Isn't that cute? On the other hand, Sunoo and Leeseo are exchanging some "we got caught" kind of glances.
“May I see those neon gummy worms?” Sunoo interrupted, suddenly showing interest in what Leeseo had been bragging about earlier. “These look way better. Plus, they last longer. You just suck on them until you look like a chipmunk!" he grinned, reaching for a jar of rainbow lollipops.
“Are you saying that I look like a chipmunk?”
“Why are you mad? There's nothing wrong with that!”
“I thought we were allies in this!”
The sweet smell of sugar filled the air as we continued to wander through the aisles, eyes wide at the endless rows of vibrant candy jars. I cleared my throat and looked at Sunghoon. He smiled at me and waved the chocolate bar he was holding.
“Look, it's bunny-shaped.” Sunghoon is still smiling as he walks in my direction; he places the bunny right beside my face and lets out a small chuckle. “Yeah, there's no difference.”
“At all?” I asked. “Yeah, exactly the same. That's crazy,” he replied with a laugh, exposing his vampire teeth.
Leeseo and Sunoo's bickering session is still audible from this side of the shop. It seems like these two haven't studied the art of subtlety yet. They revealed their entire plan to set me and Sunghoon up during their fight, and they didn't even notice that we heard it. We chose to wander around the opposite side of the candy shop after noticing that they were not planning to make peace with each other any time soon, simply because we didn't want to get ourselves caught up in the disaster.
“I legitimately thought that we were brought by destiny here.” Sunghoon chuckles, rubbing the back of his neck. “Wow, I never thought you believed in the concept of destiny.” I teased, gently nudging his shoulder.
Oh, caramel! I giggled, tossing a caramel into my basket. “Don't act like it wasn't you who taught me the whole red string theory, Jang Wonyoung.” he turned on me with his arms crossed.
“It wasn't my fault you believed it, Park Sunghoon,” I stated firmly, copying his tone and crossing my arms in front of my chest the same way he did. “Why not? You were so adamant about convincing me that the theory was proven true multiple times,” he replied, shaking his head.
I laughed, trying to recall those random conversations we had during breaks at Music Bank. “But there's not a single sight of destiny in this situation it's just Sunoo and Leeseo's master plan.”
“I didn't catch on though."
“I kind of expected that.”
Our conversation lengthened; we didn't notice that the time was flying and our baskets were getting full. We've talked about the inside jokes we used to share during our time as hosts at Music Bank and how we handled our busy schedules during our recent comebacks. I told Sunghoon that I'd be buying candies and chocolates for our members in our dorm, and he said that in that case, he should be buying some for his members as well. And now, our baskets are filled with sweets that we haven't even tried for ourselves yet.
“Oh, where did Leeseo and Sunoo go?” I noticed, looking around to see if there were any signs of them, but there were none. “Hey, Leeseo! Are you sure you didn't drown in the chocolate fountain or something?” I yelled, expecting a response from our youngest member, but to my surprise, the response didn't come.
“Yeah, Sunoo just texted me.” Sunghoon suddenly spoke. “He said that Leeseo saw a rabbit outside, and she followed it, so he went out after her.” he laughed while reading the text message on his phone screen.
“What can I say? She's just a kid. I would've done the same if I was the one who saw that.” I shrugged and walked towards the counter. “Ask Sunoo where they are, so I can take Leeseo out of his responsibility," I added with a slight chuckle.
“On it, Ma'am.” he joked and quickly messaged Sunoo on his phone. I rolled my eyes and took out my wallet to pay for the sweets inside my basket.
I was taken aback when I felt his warm palm over mine. “It's on me.” he smiled. I was about to disagree and lecture him about the rules of equality but he shook his head and took out his card.
“Don't fight me on this, Wony.” I wasn't able to move after that. There's something about him calling me Wony that causes my entire system to short-circuit.
“Fine, but I'll treat you next time,” Sunghoon smirked after hearing those words from me. My eyebrows met in confusion, why is this dude smirking? What's so funny about that? I just want to treat him in return next time.
“Are you saying that there will be a next time, Wony?”
