September 3rd, Saturday morning. Bluey wakes up to her alarm. Could she have slept in? Sure. Does she want to? No, she doesn't want to waste a Saturday morning sleeping in. She jumps out of bed and washes up in the bathroom. She heads downstairs for brekky. "Good morning, sleeping beauty." Bandit teased her. "Daaad, it's not that late." Bluey rolled her eyes playfully as she sat down to eat the brekky waiting for her at the table. "Just teasin ya, mate." Bandit smiled as he looked back down at his newspaper, sitting across from Bluey. Bluey nibbled at her brekkie, conversing a bit with her mum and dad. As Bluey finished up, she gave her plate to her mum as she was already washing pans and dishes."Mum, dad, I think I'm gonna take a walk to the coffee shop." Bluey stated as she headed towards the front door. Her dad nodded with approval. As she stepped out of the neighborhood, she texted her friend Chloe. Chloe was an early bird herself during the weekends, so bluey figured she might want to meet up with her at the coffee shop. Chloe was indeed down. As bluey made it halfway to the coffee shop, she noticed a decently large group of people gathered around a man. A golden retriever wearing a white and yellow cassock. "I wonder what all the fuss is about..." she thought to herself, crossing the street as her curiousity was getting the best of her. She walked up to the group. There was the man in the cassock speaking with quite a few others standing near him, holding spiked bats. They seemed to be guards of some sort.
"And I have seen the light for myself!" The golden retriever cries. "The suns rays have shown me the path to salvation. I have been chosen to lead us to a new era. Follow me, for I shall guide you to eternal life." He held up a golden dagger, the blade gleaming in the sunlight. "If you wish to be saved by me, father sol, you must take the mark of solis written in runic alphabet. Carved into your flesh by me or my men. Those who are with me, raise your paw." A quarter of the crowd raised their paws, approaching father sol.
Bluey felt her stomach twist and turn. She sort of froze in place. She knew this was a cult by the first sentence she heard father sol speak. She couldn't help but keep listening...
those who volunteered to take this mark, whimpered in pain, but refused to give in as they "knew" this was right. Fascinatingly gullible.
After all who volunteered were marked, father sol wiped the leftover blood off of the blade of his golden dagger. "Now... you are granted children of the sun. Those of you who have refused, you have once last chance. Those who do not cooperate are to be executed as it is necessary to cleanse our country of those who do not believe."
And this was when chills were really sent down Blueys back."This can't be real-" Bluey thought herself, immediately bolting out of there. Thankfully, she left undetected. However, once she got far enough, she could distantly hear screams of those being executed. Where was law enforcement?!
Bluey didn't feel she had time to talk on the phone, so she texted Chloe about the whole situation... as crazy as she sounded. After running so much, Bluey made it home. Even after dipping undetected, she didn't feel safe slowly walking back home. She walked through the front door, out of breath. "Back so soon, love?" Chilli said in a slight confused tone.
"Mum, dad, there's... a crazy... man... killing people if they d-don't take this mark... and follow his teachings." Bluey tried to get her words out in between some breaths. "What?! are you all there, mate?" Bandit said, propping himself next to Bluey on the couch.Bluey calmed down and explained everything to her parents. With both parents in disbelief, bandit turns on the news. Not so much to their surprise, the local news station was doing a story on the new cult gradually taking over the city of Brisbane. The news anchor gave a shelter in place warning for the rest of the week as Brisbane police attempt to get things under control. Bandit shut off the telly, leaning back into the couch, paw over his face as he sighed. Chilli draped her arm over Blueys shoulder as she sat next to her. Chilli kept a calm demeanor as she didn't want to further worry Bluey. "It'll be okay, sweetheart. Crazy things... happen sometime. As long as we shelter in place, nothing bad will happen. The police will deal with it." She nuzzled bluey. Bluey didn't say anything, she just sat there staring off into the distance, as did bandit. "I'm gonna go in the kitchen and make some calls to family and friends, okay?" Chilli casually stated before walking into the kitchen to make some calls.
Luckily, everyone was fine and took shelter in place. That was until Blueys phone rang. It was Chloe. "Yeah, chloe?" Bluey heard silence on the other end of the phone before Chloe finally answered. "Th-they got us-" the call was cut short. Blueys phone dropped to the floor. "They... got them" Bluey said with her eyes watering. "Bluey.. I-" bandit embraced his daughter, trying to keep it together for her. Chilli had to step away. "Dad, it might not be too late!" Bluey exclaimed with tears falling from her eyes. She rushed to the door but bandit gripped her scruff, pulling her back before she could open the front door. "Bluey, you cant put yourself in danger. There's nothing we can do. I know it's devastating, it is for me too." Bluey wiggled out of his grip. "You can't stop me!" Bandit caught her by her scruff once again. "I'll go." "What? No! You can't go, dad." Bandit gave her a quick embrace. "No, you can't go. And I should go. before any more time is wasted. If I don't come back... just know I love you and your mother."
Bluey cried even harder. "But you will come back!" She embraced him hard, crying even harder. "I love you, dad."Bandit exchanged I love yous with chilli aswell before heading out with a metal shovel for defense. By now, the streets were already quickly overrun with children of the sun, police, and chaos.
"Wait, I should call mackenzie." She rung her boyfriend's phone and he quickly answered on the first ring. "Bluey, are you alright?!"
"Im okay, I guess you know what's going on by now. It's quickly become obvious. Bad news is..." her breath and her words got shaky. "They got Chloe and her family. I don't know if they're still alive or what... my dad's gone out looking. Now that I think about it, he doesn't even know where to find them. I'm so worried, mackenzie..."
Mackenzie groaned in worry. "Blues... I don't think you should've let your dad out there. It's pretty crazy, most of the city is infested with these minion types of people-" mackenzie cut himself off, realized he was only gonna stress bluey out more. "You know what? I have high hopes. Your dad's a badass. But anyways, I wish I could be there with you right now. Hopefully things get resolved." Mackenzie lowered his voice in worry. Bluey sighed, sniffling on the other end of the phone. "I don't know, kenz. I don't know. Just please stay safe. You have enough food to atleast last a few days, right?" Mackenzie slightly hesitated. "Uh.. I think so. Yeah. You?" "Yeah, there's enough. I'm gonna text my other friends and check up on them. I love you, bye."Bluey did as she said she would do. Thankfully everyone was fine for the time being. Other than Chloe and her family of course. By now, it's been 40 minutes since bandit had gone out on his possible rescue mission. Bluey and her mum sat snuggled up on the couch, holding eachother for comfort in silence. They both held back tears as they held eachother tight fearing the worst for Chloe, her family, and most importantly... bandit. He should've left with his damn phone.
By this point, the chaos that was ensuing outside was pretty audible. "Mum, we shouldn't have let dad go." She broke the silence with the tears she held back finally flowing again. "It was the right thing to do... don't give up hope, it hasn't been too long, dear." Chilli wiped the tears from bluey eyes and stroked the fur of her head.Authors note
