Reed pov
"Reed!" Uncle Sam rushed over panting with his shirt on backwards and tears in his eyes. Firefighters and police officers were running around outing the fire. Flames consumed the entire frame and the smoke filled the night. "Reed!"
He sounds muffled. My ears are ringing. There's a huge lump in my throat and my face is soaked in tears. Heat boils in various spots on my arms and feet.
Uncle Sam takes my shoulders, "Reed please say something. Are you okay?" I wanna say it. Mom's gone, Dad's gone. I wanna cry and scream.
"I wanna go home" I sound broken. I sound weak. I sound afraid. It's as if the sparks in his eyes blew out.
"They're gone, Reed. I am so sorry"
"Reed!" I jump up hearing Uncle Sam by my door, glaring at me with bed creases on his face. My alarm is blaring by my side and I wince. "Dude seriously turn that shit off and go to school".
He shuts the door but I barely registered what he said. School. School? School! Shit! It's 6:50! I jump out of bed but immediately stagger. What the-
My entire body is covered in sweat. My hair sticks to my nape and forehead as I grab my desk chair for help. My throat throbs at the dryness and irritation and my vision sizzles.
"Okayyy" I drag and grab my glasses but nothing works, instead the frames seem to make it worse. I drop them and open my curtains. "Holy!-"
I dodge the sunlight as my eyes burn, the blaring of a horn outside rings like a screech in my ear and I crouch down clamping down on my ears. I groan as the horn blares louder and louder.
What's happening?!
I grab the chair' handle but the plastic snaps in pieces. Okay, what- I hesitantly drop the pieces and back away. My heart races in my chest and I speed walk into the bathroom.
The light blinds me and I snatch my towel and pull it over my head with a groan. Am I sick? Coming down with something? I grab my toothbrush and toothpaste. I apply the toothpaste but the toothbrush snaps in half. The brush falls into the sink.
I turn the water on but the handle breaks off in my hand. Shi- the water sprays all over and I crowd the towel over it. I grab the other handle and the edge of the sink but the entire porcelain frame shatters and hits the floor.
"Reed go to school!" I groan hearing his loud yell. Jesus, it's like he's a hundred times louder. After a while the water stops running in the flooded bathroom and I freeze trying to grasp what's happening.
Okay okay okay think! Flu? No. Aids? Definitely Not.
All of a sudden I hear a bug. An irritating sound that sends an itch throughout my ears. A fly buzzing in my room. Ignore it, Reed. Okay so yesterday I ate lunch- the fly- went back to class- the fly- left Smith's - OH MY GOD KILL THE FLY.
I slam the bathroom door open and throw my shoe at the bug hovering above my bed. I jump as the shoe shoots through the bug and slams into the wall creating a large crack.
Reed. What the absolute fu-
I run towards the wall and touch the cracks. "Ohhhhh....no" I whisper and a few pieces hall out. At this rate, they gotta let me on the football team. How freaking hard did I throw? I snatch a Neighborhood poster and lean it against the wall.
Yeah, that'll hide it till I get back. Right?
...nah.
I grab a hoodie, sweats and my bag before slamming the front door by accident and then jogging down the steps.
