Reed pov.
"Okay, seriously why are we in old man Norville's backyard again?" Kiara's whispering by the fence makes Dante roll his eyes as he hops onto the dried grass of the creepiest house on the block.
"Because it's Halloween and it's fun," was his explanation, but the multiple lightning McQueen bandaids on his knee said this was another bad idea. I fix the bridge of my glasses as I stumble down the fence into the backyard. I wince when a piece of wood scratches my arm, but I make my way to the fence, fingers brushing hers through the diamond spaces.
"Reed I'm scared" she whispers out of Dante's earshot and I blush when she holds my hand. Her droopy teddy hanging off her arm.
"I-I'll protect you" I stutter and she smiles before climbing over. She drops Teddy and I catch him as she hops down. I hand her Mr. Teddy and that permanent smile remains as she picks grass out of my hair.
"Helloooo? Are you guys coming or not?" Dante hollers from the hitch in the backdoor. A smirk on his face as he pushes the creaking door. I gasp and Kie grabs my sleeve.
"Dante maybe we shouldn't-
"Oh don't be a wuss. How scary can it be anyway? It's just an abandoned house"
I kick off my skateboard in the empty indoor skatepark. I'm clad in a simple black T and sweats but the heat burns right through my body. I sit down slightly wheezing on the floor. Breathe Reed, breathe. I close my eyes as my palms touch the cold floors. But the venom starts to pulse and a slight rumbling occurs next to me. Light scratches and steps. A ladybug.
Finally, I could use some good luck.
...says the most unlucky person ever.
The red bug crawls on the cold ground then onto my finger. It flutters and lands all over my arms and onto my palms but before I could flash it off my palms heat up and burn the bug into dust. Holy-
"Damn" I whisper standing up. I run to my skateboard but trip over my laces only to land on my palms against a ramp which cracks violently under my hands. Okay, okay! I get it! I quickly move away but my foot kicks the board towards the corner of the room. I sigh and jog over.
"Holy shit!" a cat hisses at me from behind a ramp and races out the door. At this point my heart's beating out of my chest and I cling to the wall only to realize all of me is on the wall...My palms, soles and back stick to the wall and I hover above the floor. "Woah..."
So I stick to walls? Cool.
I slowly unstick myself and grab my board. Backing away I face the ceiling. Hmm. Not too high. I jump up with a grunt and my palm sticks to the rough ceiling. I laugh. This is frickin' awesome! I drop the board again and attach my other hand. No way. I attach my legs and my hair falls. "Holy fuck" I whisper as I start crawling.
Now or never.
Please don't.
"Spider-man, spider-man, does whatever a spider can..." My cheeks hurt from smiling as I basically run around the ceiling.
"Reed, I need to lock up..." I fall flat on my back when the park owner swings the door open.
"Ow" I wince and he looks at me funny. I scramble to my feet before grabbing my board and walking by him as he stares at me.
"Weird kid" he whispers but I hear it clear as day. Doesn't matter anyway. I just crawled around a frickin' ceiling! Wait- I just crawled around a ceiling...does this mean I'm a superhero now or...?
