GARDEN-HALSTEAD MANOR
The sun beamed down on the picturesque garden of Halstead Manor, where Edward Horniman was playfully tossing a frisbee back and forth with his two daughters. Laughter filled the air as the girls chased after the vibrant disc, their joy infectious. Nearby, Mary sat comfortably in a sun-drenched corner, flipping through the pages of a magazine, occasionally glancing up to watch her family play.
As the laughter echoed, a figure appeared at the garden gate, stepping onto the manicured lawn with a purposeful stride. Susie Glass, elegant and poised, adjusted her blazer as she approached, her keen eyes taking in the idyllic scene.
"Sorry to disturb you," she began, a sly smile curling her lips. "Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Susie Glass." Mary stepped forward. "How can I help you, Ms. Glass?"
"Oh, you must be Lady Mary Horniman!" Susie exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with recognition. With a graceful curtsy, she added, "Her Royal Highness Alexandra Mary Horniman. Actually, I was hoping to speak with you," she replied, her tone both respectful and direct. "I used to be in business with your husband's father."
"Well, forgive my confusion," Eddie replied, crossing his arms. "But my father wasn't exactly known for his business acumen."
"Perhaps not," Susie conceded, her tone shifting to something more serious. "I have certain... interests I need to discuss with you."
"What kind of interests?" Edward interjected, curiosity piqued.
"It's probably easier if I just show you, but it seems I've arrived during family time." Susie replied, her eyes glinting with a hint of humor.
"Oh, they won't mind," Mary turned her gaze to the girls, who were now squealing with delight as they caught the frisbee. "Girls, why don't you go keep your grandmother company for a bit?" she called, her voice warm but firm.
"Do we have to?" Charlotte -the stubborn one- pouted, glancing back at her father. "Yes, it'll be fun! Go on," Eddie encouraged, smiling as they reluctantly trotted off toward the house.
With a nod, Susie led Edward and Mary out of the garden, leaving their children in the care of their grandmother. As they walked, Mary turned to her husband, her brow furrowed. "What do you think this is about?"
