Edward and Mary walked side by side along the gravel path leading back to the manor house, the crunch of stones underfoot the only sound breaking the heavy silence between them. The tension from their recent conversation with Susie hung in the air like a dark cloud, and Mary's arms were crossed tightly against her chest, her mind racing with worries.

As they continued their walk, they spotted Geoff, the estate's long-time groundskeeper, ambling toward them. He was a stoic figure, blending seamlessly into the landscape he had tended for decades. Tipping his cap, he greeted them.

"Your Grace." He nodded toward Mary. "Your royal highness."

Mary offered a polite smile, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. Edward felt a surge of determination. He had been meaning to speak with Geoff, and this felt like the right moment.

"Actually, Geoff," Edward said, stopping in his tracks, "I wouldn't mind a chat if you have the time."

Geoff shrugged, his expression neutral. "Well, I normally have a cup of tea around this time of day."

"Perfect," Edward replied.

Mary hesitated, glancing between the two men before leaning up to kiss Edward on the cheek.

"I'll leave you to it, Ed. I'm going to check on Freddy," she said, her voice steady despite her underlying tension. "Take care, Geoff."

"You as well, Your royal highness," Geoff replied, bowing his head slightly as Mary turned and walked away, her figure quickly disappearing down the path toward the house.

HALSTEAD MANOR COTTAGE

Inside Geoff's small, cozy cottage, the aroma of brewing tea enveloped the air, creating an inviting atmosphere. The interior was humble, adorned with worn furniture, old photographs, and a few odd knick-knacks. Sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow that made the space feel like a sanctuary amid the brewing storm outside.

" How long have you been working here Geoff, what is it twenty years?" Edward asked, lifting his cup to his lips.

Geoff chuckled lightly, shaking his head as if the number was unfathomable. "I'm not good with years, but you and your brother were still in shorts."

Geoff lowered himself into the chair across from Edward, stirring his tea absentmindedly. He fell quiet for a moment, lost in memories of their shared history on the estate.
