My first day of work. I've heard all these horror stories about the place. How people never work anywhere else, how people die so often, how if you enter the second floor you're never seen agian.

I had just finished the tour and safety of the lab, and my boss stopped into my office for a moment.

"Hey, assistant. How has you first day here been?" My very tall boss, Walden, stepped into my office. 6'11, actually.

"Oh, Boss!" I quickly threw my headphones around my neck, spinning around to face him. "My day has been fine, still getting, uhh... used to the way things work around here."

"Makes sense, it takes everyone awhile, considering work-life balance is completely gone, you live in a dorm, and need special permission to leave factory grounds."

"Yeah. But Frank is nice, and they said that people around here are normally nice." My music continues to blast from my headphones; Violent Pornography by System of a Down.

"Most employees are. But Jeremy and Clarisse are quite rude." He shook his head, seemingly disappointed in his workers. "Anyway, can you get me some coffee? I need to go find someone to put on grinder duty because Samantha came down with something, and she's in the infirmary."

"Yessir." I saluted him, and he walked out. I grabbed the sticky note with his coffee order written on it; 8 oz of coffee, no cream, 1 ts of sugar. Now might be a good time to mention I was a barista while I was in high school.

~ Time skip ~

I was standing in front of Wally's office, with a cup of hot coffee in my hands, finally knocking on the door.

"Enter." He called from inside, so I did.

I slowly opened the door and paced inside, extending the coffee to him. He took it, looking at the swirling liquid for a moment. I turned to leave, when he spoke again.

"Don't leave yet, I need to check it first." I turned back around to face him.

"Check it?"

"Check it to see if you made it right." He turned to face me, spinning his chair around and looking at me, almost as if he was trying to read my soul. Without breaking eye contact, he took a sip. "Good, alright you can go." He waved me off, and I turned to leave. But as I opened the door, I heard him mutter one last thing.

"How did they make this tastier than apples?"
