Sylvia's POV

I hurried down the stairs. "Come on, Jeremy! We're gonna be late! Get out the door now!" Elena urged.

Jenna was already handing her a thermos as I walked in. "Forgot this," she said, flashing a quick smile at Elena. "Thanks," Elena replied, snatching it from her and darting toward the door.

Just as she swung it open, John was about to knock.

"Hey, Elena!" he greeted with a bright smile.

"Uncle John! Hi!" she exclaimed, her energy shifting instantly.

"Jenna," he nodded, acknowledging her as he stepped into the house.

"John, you made it," Jenna said, crossing her arms annoyed.

"I said I'd be here by nine," he replied smirking.

I leaned against the wall, taking in the scene. Typical family chaos, but I wouldn't miss it for the world. Jeremy bounded down the stairs, looking like he'd just rolled out of bed.

"Uncle John, what's up?" he said, slapping John on the shoulder before disappearing out the door.

"Hey!" John called after him, chuckling. "I had some business in town, thought a visit was in order."

"How long are you staying?" I asked, curious.

"I don't know yet, Sylvia," he admitted as we shook hands. "Okay, I've got to go to school. See you later!" Elena chimed in darting out.

"I'll see you guys for dinner." I said leaving Jenna and John to catch up.

School was the usual chaotic mess, Alaric the whole period, looking like he had something important to share.

As soon as the class was finished and everyone was leaved Alaric stopped me. "Sylvia a minute." I stayed back curious.

"Hey, I made a copy of a paper Jeremy wrote for me. You should take a look at it," He said, handing me the sheet.

I glanced at the title: Fact or Fiction: The Truth About Vampires in Mystic Falls. I raised an eyebrow. "Jeremy wrote this? Seriously?" I couldn't help but be impressed.

It was way better than I expected.

"It's clear he didn't think it was real," Alaric replied.

"Well, I prefer to think otherwise," I shot back, sharing a knowing look with him. "Elena might be on that 'protect him from all of this' kick, but I doubt he'd want to stay in the dark forever."

I handed the paper back, and he nodded, taking it. "I think Stefan is a good guy. But at the end of the day, he's still a vampire."

I smiled, getting off the chair. "From what you saw me do last time, I'm not exactly winning any 'Human of the Year' awards either," I joked, and he chuckled.

"Just be careful around those vamp big bads, especially Damon," he warned, and I nodded, appreciating the advice.

"Let me see you out," Alaric said as we walked out of school.

As we stepped out into the field, I filled him in about meeting his wife's friend. "You won't believe it—she compelled a guy last time to make sure we didn't go looking for her."

"Classic vampire move," Alaric said, shaking his head.

After school, I headed home, but as soon as I walked in, I heard a loud thud from upstairs and I raced up the stairs.

I burst into Elena's room, and my heart dropped. "What's happening here?" I rushed over, to see him backed against the wall, a lamp shattered on the floor beside him.
