Taking the Plunge

After hanging up with Ruby, Jackson cleaned up his kitchen and climbed the stairs to his bedroom, feeling utterly exhausted. He plopped down on the mattress, barely having time to kick off his shoes before he passed out. Morning light filtered through the curtains, and his alarm blared, waking him bright and early for his workout routine. He hit the gym, the familiar scent of sweat and determination filling the air. As he walked in, he was surprised to see Aiden already there, pumping iron. That was odd for Aiden; he usually didn't work out this early.

"Hey, how'd it go last night?" Aiden asked, barely breaking his focus as he lifted a heavy weight. Jackson grunted, grabbing a pair of dumbbells for himself. "We talked on the phone, then video chatted."

Aiden paused, raising an eyebrow. "Details?" Jackson shook his head, keeping his eyes on his weights. "No way."

Aiden smirked, clearly not ready to let it go. "Come on, man. Just a little something?" Jackson rolled his eyes, starting his set. "We had a conversation. That's it." "Come on! You've got to give me more than that!" Aiden persisted, moving on to a different exercise.

Jackson completed another rep before responding. "Fine. She was sleepy, and she called me 'handsome.' There, that's it." He focused on his breathing, trying to ignore the way Aiden's smirk widened. Aiden let out a low whistle. "Wow, look at you! You're already getting the charming title."

Jackson shot him a look, annoyed but amused. "It's not like that. We're just talking." Aiden chuckled, jumping in for his next set. "Sure, sure. Just talking. Whatever helps you sleep at night."

They continued their workout, Jackson pushing through the reps while Aiden kept asking playful questions that Jackson refused to answer. It felt good to work out, the tension from the previous day slowly melting away with each lift and stretch. But in the back of his mind, he couldn't shake the excitement about seeing Ruby again, especially after the way she had made him feel last night.

After finishing their intense workout, Jackson and Aiden exchanged knowing looks, the post-exercise exhaustion settling in. Jackson grabbed his towel and looked over at Aiden, who was already stretching out his sore muscles. "I'm gonna shower, but today's gonna be real busy for me, so I need you at a hundred percent," Jackson said, his voice steady but the underlying weariness creeping in. 

He could feel the weight of his responsibilities looming large, especially with the back-to-back meetings that filled his calendar. Aiden nodded, cracking a grin. "Yeah, I saw your calendar... and yikes, I don't envy you at all." The lighthearted comment drew a chuckle from Jackson, but they both knew the day ahead wasn't going to be easy. 

As Jackson headed toward his house, his mind drifted to Ruby. He couldn't help but smile as he pulled out his phone and shot off a quick text. *Have a good day at work, beautiful. He liked keeping things light, knowing it would brighten her day just a little. 

Not long after, his phone buzzed with her reply. Can't tell if I'm dreaming, or are you actually this perfect? Jackson couldn't help but smirk at her response, feeling a familiar warmth rise in his chest. Not always perfect, just perfect for you, he texted back, a little grin playing on his lips. It didn't take long for Ruby to respond, and when she did, it made him chuckle. Not gonna lie, that was smooth. 

With a sense of satisfaction, Jackson tossed his phone on the bathroom counter and stripped down for his shower. He stepped into the steamy water, letting the heat relax his muscles, still tense from the workout. As the water cascaded down his broad back, he reached for the body wash, lathering it into his hands before spreading it over his chest and shoulders.
