A couple of hours had passed, and Sukuna was still restless. Even after the shower, the heavy feeling in his chest refused to fade. He needed a distraction—something, anything, to keep himself from thinking about you. But being stuck in a safe house meant there wasn't much to do.
Sukuna sat quietly in the living room, looking lost, uncharacteristically disheartened. His arm hung loosely over the back of the couch, muscles tensed as he slumped.
His phone vibrated, breaking him out of his trance. Yuji's name flashed across the screen. Sukuna straightened, shaking his head to regain composure before sliding his finger across the screen.
"Yo, brat. What is it?" Sukuna's deep voice carried a hint of irritation lacking his usual bite. A part of him wished his brother hadn't called.
"Hey, how's it going?" Yuuji was quick and clear. His brother didn't reply immediately and Sukuna let his head fall back as he released a deep and frustrated sigh. "What's wrong?" his younger brother continued with a cautious voice.
"Nothing much. Can't wait for this contract to end. You?"
He was obviously lying. Sukuna's tone was low, grumbling. Even so, something didn't feel right to Yuji.
"Bored, kinda. Megumi's dealing with his dad's usual shit, apparently he's ready to come back in his life but it turns out he's just broke after spending all his money on scratchers and betting on sports again. Nobara went shopping with a friend. So... yeah. Just the usual." Yuji chirped.
"Great, not surprising. Why did you call, brat?"
"Just checking in. Didn't think you'd stay with a client this long. I thought you hated long contracts?"
"I do... but this one's a special case, I guess."
"So... who's the client?"
Sukuna chuckled dryly, taking a slow breath before answering. "A woman. Undetermined time. The pay's good." His voice was raspy, lacking energy, and dripping with annoyance.
Yuji paused. "She hot?" he asked, half teasing.
"Gorgeous."
"Damn... doesn't sound so bad," Yuji joked.
"Trust me, it's not as easy as it sounds," Sukuna growled, his tone growing colder.
Yuji went silent for a beat. "That bad, huh? Something go wrong?"
"Yeah. She's fucking infuriating. Biggest headache ever. Stubborn as hell, always fighting back." His frustration spilled out, each word thick with tension. "Shits a fuckin' mess..." he muttered to himself, throwing an arm over his face. He couldn't tell Yuji but he was already in way too fucking deep. You were already everything to him.
"She sounds like you... minus the gorgeous part."
"Fuck off." Sukuna almost smiled, but it quickly faded.
"So, what kind of mess?"
"The one between me and the senator—Y/LN." Sukuna let out another frustrated grunt, trying not to choke on his words. "She drives me crazy, man. Can't keep my head straight. We didn't even fuck, and yet the way she is—" He caught himself before saying too much and swore under his breath.
"Woah woa wait, what!?" Yuuji said in disbelief. "You gotta tell me what happened now!"
"Damnit!" Sukuna hissed, feeling the heat rise to his face. "She's sexy as hell, and she's smart. I fucked up, and now I can't even get close to her. We kissed and messed around—"
"Wait you actually talk to your client and went so far as to mess around?" He could picture the surprise on Yuji's face at that one.
"Shut the fuck up, asshole."
