Suryagarh was in the midst of a quiet storm. The kingdom buzzed with curiosity and unease. The question on everyone's lips was: who would be the next king? Despite having the power to appoint a successor, the late king had introduced a voting system before his death. The reasons remained shrouded in mystery, fueling speculation and tension.
"Nandani Bai Sa, Rajveer Kuwar Sa has asked you to join them for breakfast. There will also be a pooja for the late king and queen," the maid informed softly before leaving the room. Nandani nodded without a word, lost in her own world of silence. Ever since the tragic kidnapping incident and the shocking news of Asha's death, Nandani had withdrawn into herself. Guilt weighed heavily on her heart, though Rajveer assured her time and again that none of it was her fault. Her once lively conversations had ceased, and her only friend, Ishana, had stopped visiting since the royal announcement.
As Nandani got ready, she chose a simple off-white saree with minimal makeup. Her steps felt heavy as she made her way to the dining room. The moment she entered, she could feel the tension thick in the air. The silence was almost suffocating. Rajveer, her husband, gestured for her to sit beside him, and she did so without a word. Just then, Abhimanyu walked in, casually taking the seat next to Nandani. Rajveer's displeasure was evident, but in the spirit of family decorum, he said nothing.
The room remained awkwardly silent until Naitik, one of the king's advisors, broke the ice. "Kuwar Sa, the dates for the voting have been set. The elections will take place in five days, with no separate votes for royal members." His gaze met Rajveer's as he delivered the news.
Rajveer nodded while casting a glance at Nandani. "I will leave for an inspection of the kingdom personally," he announced. No one responded, but the tension was palpable. Feeling the weight of the silence, Nandani spoke up, her voice soft but firm. "I want to come with you, Kuwar Sa."
Rajveer looked at her, surprised by her request. He leaned in, gently wiping a smudge of lipstick from the corner of her mouth. "It's Raj for you," he whispered with a playful smile. Nandani blushed, embarrassed by his affection, and quickly resumed eating, eager to finish and leave.
After breakfast, everyone quietly dispersed.
In the corner of the palace, Abhimanyu and naitik shared a secret conversation. "He's going to inspect the kingdom to gain the people's trust. We need to act fast, Abhi," naitik said with concern.
"Don't worry, Baba Sa. I've already planned everything for my dear Baha'i Sa," Abhimanyu replied with a sly grin.

Later that day, Rajveer and Nandani left in the royal caravan for the inspection. Nandani gazed out of the window, lost in thought, while Rajveer's eyes stayed on her. "Jaan, do you like the view so much that you haven't even glanced at me?" he teased.
Nandani smiled faintly. "This place is beautiful. My father once told me I'd been here before, but I don't remember it."
"Then make new memories, good ones. Leave the bad memories to me, I'll handle them. You just focus on being happy," Rajveer said, his voice gentle and reassuring.
Their journey seemed peaceful until a sudden, deafening bang echoed through the air. Nandani screamed in terror as the royal caravan jolted to a halt, leaving both of them in shock and fear.
