"Nat, hurry up!" Will yelled at me. I rushed down the stairs.
"I'm coming!" I yelled back. I rushed right past him and outside. Will hated giving me rides to school and I hated riding with him. He was holding a pity grudge against me because for the last couple years, I had taken a couple extra classes over the summer. Now I was in the same grade as him even though I was a year younger. He somehow thought I had done it just to piss him off. However, Will had been the last person on my mind. It had been about getting closer to the girl of my dreams. One Audrey Jensen.
"I don't understand why you can't just drive yourself. You have a license," Will complained as he got in.
"Mom took my car away remember? Because your stupid friend ran me off the road," I said as I buckled.
"Don't blame it on Jake," He said, driving off towards the school. That was another grudge we had. His friend was out to ruin my life and he sided with him.
"Because Jake is so perfect," I said, rolling my eyes, "so did Emma forgive you for not making it to your date?"
"That's none of your business Nat. And stop being buddy buddy with my girlfriend," He said. He pulled into the school parking lot, "out." I flipped him off and got out. I walked up towards the school, trying to quietly look and see if Audrey was there. She was and everyone was staring at her. That's when I remembered the video that had gone up, and down, last night. At first, my thoughts were that I was happy because Audrey liked girls and I had a chance. Then I realized that my newfound chance was already gone. Because she was kissing some other girl. She was taken. I looked away and down.
It wasn't until English class that I had a class with Audrey. Sadly, Will was also in this class as were his friends. I was listening to Audrey's friend, Noah, give a creepy speech about killers while I snuck glances at Audrey. I think she noticed, giving me a dirty look. I frowned and looked forward, hoping that look hadn't been shot at me. Noah's speech nearly took up the rest of class. But what ended class was us being called down for an assembly.
"Last night, Nina Patterson passed away. She found this morning by her mother. Let us have a moment of silence," the principal said, standing before us all. We were all silent. Most of us were shocked. All of us wanted to know what had happened. After the moment, he continued, "there will be mandatory grief counseling and then you will be free to go."
I sat next to Emma to wait for the counseling. I was leaning on her. She was like a big sister to me. And she was by far a better sibling then Will. She was the best decision he had made and he was going to ruin it.
"It doesn't seem real, Nina can't possibly be dead," Emma said.
"Yeah." I said.
"There's like nothing on the internet. There are barely saying anything. I need gory details," Jake said. I felt your stomach give out, how could he talk like that about someone he had known? I was called back to the counselor then so I missed the rest of what they said.
I waited outside for Will afterwards. He was sitting with his friends and I was sitting alone, like normal. I was looking over at Audrey every once in awhile while working on an assignment. I noticed Emma talking to her. A few seconds later Emma was walking towards me.
"Hey," She said.
"Hey," I replied, "what's up?" She sat beside me.
"How do you feel about coming to a party tonight?" She asked.
"Me?" I asked, surprised. I was never invited to anything, especially parties where my brother and his friends were going to be. Emma nodded. "Ok," I agreed. I felt both nervous and excited.
