Anya reading minds

Another day, another several moments in this run-down orphanage. The place was dirty, the kids don't even have anything close to good clothes, the windows have cracks and were boarded up with a few wood planks from the outside- all in all, this place is what humans would consider hell.

I'm a witch, from another realm. No one knows my secret, except for a little pink haired girl with fern green eyes. How she found out, you ask? It's because she too has a secret: she's a telepath; the ability to read minds. Although she can hear mine, she can't speak into anyone's mind, can only hear the thoughts of others.

I can luckily use my magic freely without the worry of cameras around. I was playing with Anya and her stuffed Chimera plush and my palisman, Pixie, who has the appearance and wool of an earth sheep. I stopped when I heard an unfamiliar voice outside the door. "Pardon me. If possible, I'd like two children who can read and write. A small kid and a teen." The unfamiliar voice requested, sounding like a man.

I quickly gestured to Pixie to shift into a plush, she's good at deception of pure innocence to people because that's what people often refer to sheepish things. A palisman has the magical essence of its own that its bonded partner can utilize, and that's blending into the society of humans.

I lifted both hands and pointed them at my ears, swirling them in a circle as f/c magic trailed after them, the sides of my head poofed into a cloud of baby blue smoke. When the smoke cleared, it showed that my pointed ears now looked round, like a human. After that was done, I went back to what we were doing, like nothing happened.

The door opened, and the owner of this crappy establishment walked through with a man wearing a light green three-piece suit with a red tie, a long-sleeved white shirt, and black leather shoes walked in. He has short, blond, ruffled hair, blue eyes, and light skin, is tall with a slim but athletic build.

"Hey, Anya, Y/n. They are the two smartest ones we've got. Anya doesn't talk much, but she's a good kid. Y/n is a curious one but does what she's told." The owner informed.

She's a creepy, disgusting little brat, and the f/c eyes of the other one is just so unnatural. I'd be thrilled to get them outta my hair.

"Go on. Say hello." the owner urged. I got up, pulling Anya with me as we walked over.

If I recall, the earliest age students can enter Eden College is six. At least, they're having a one-time event where older kids can join. But the little one definitely looks no older than four or five.

"Hello, I am Y/n, and this is Anya. I am 14 years old." I introduced. "Six." Anya said. I glanced over at her confused, what is she going on about? "I'm six!" Anya squeaked. "You're six years old?" The owner questioned.

But she's so small...

I see Anya push herself up on her tippy toes, trying to look taller. Anya walked over to the table, set her chimera plush before taking the folded newspaper. She held it up, showing a crossword puzzle.

Hm? The paper? A crossword puzzle? That's probably too difficult for a child.

Anya turned back to the table, grabbed a pencil, and sat down, trying to solve the puzzle. What is she doing? The man who is supposedly going to adopt us walked over and watched her solved it, peering over her shoulder.

Of course, for myself, it's mere child's play. One down is "homeostasis." One across is "causal closure." The one below, that is "symplectomorphism."

Anya dropped the pencil on the table and showed everyone in the room that she filled in the puzzle correctly 100%, even the words that I believe she wouldn't have known about. "She completed it? Seriously?" The orphanage owner questioned in shock.

Such unbelievable intellect. She should have no problem passing the entrance exam.

"I'll take them. As for the paperwork..." The man started but was interrupted by the owner. "Don't worry about that. Just take them already." The owner said.

My mission to end up with children is a success. Everything's going so well that it's making me nervous.

"Are you two okay with this?" The man- Our new dad, asked. Anya gave him a curt nod, her eyes sparkling with wonder. "Yes, we're happy to have someone to call dad." I said, smiling.
