A week had drifted by, each day melding into the next with an almost eerie calm. Jungkook settled into the mansion's routine, finding solace in the quiet corners and avoiding Taehyung whenever possible. He kept his distance, well aware that too much proximity to Taehyung only brought unease and a strange, simmering tension he couldn't quite place.

Nothing truly remarkable had happened in that time-Taehyung had been occupied with work, leaving the mansion early and returning late, while Jungkook occupied himself with anything he could to feel some semblance of normalcy. The absence of confrontation or mysterious words felt like a relief.

Yet, there was a restlessness brewing within Jungkook. The silence of the mansion, once a refuge, now felt heavy and laden with unspoken things, lingering questions he wasn't yet brave enough to ask.

Jungkook's life outside the mansion had blossomed in stark contrast to the suffocating silence within its walls. His new friends made his college hours vibrant, filling them with laughter, stories, and the kind of easy camaraderie he'd yearned for since coming to the city. They exchanged notes, shared coffee during breaks, and walked the bustling campus together, making him feel a part of something real, something free.

But as much as he wanted to stay out longer, to go exploring the city with his friends, he couldn't. Like clockwork, Taehyung's bodyguards would appear the moment his last lecture ended, shadowing him back to the mansion with an unyielding insistence that grated against his need for independence. Each day, the same silent journey back, as if the world outside could only be his in fragments, quickly stolen away as the mansion's doors closed behind him.

In his heart, he grew weary of the double life he led-free and spirited on campus, only to be shackled by an invisible force the moment he left. Yet, he knew any attempt to resist would be met with Taehyung's usual guarded responses, layered in cryptic metaphors that gave nothing away.

As Jungkook turned to leave, the maids exchanged small, knowing smiles, touched by his politeness. One of them reached out, adjusting the collar of his jacket like a mother fussing over her child. "Stay warm, Jungkookie," she murmured, her eyes softening with a warmth he hadn't felt in a long time within these mansion walls.

Jungkook nodded, offering another gentle smile. There was a strange comfort in their presence-these maids who fussed over him, who tried, in their own quiet way, to make this place feel a little less cold. It was almost enough to distract him from the fact that, once again, the bodyguards were stationed by the front door, their shadows tall and unyielding, ready to escort him to his university like a prisoner granted temporary freedom.

He clutched his bag tighter, stepping past them without a word, his steps resolute but his heart heavy. The fleeting kindness from the maids was a small light, but he knew it wouldn't follow him beyond the mansion's gate.
