1790s

The heavy silence of the manor was familiar to Jimin. His mother’s house, wrapped in the dense fog of isolation, stood at the edge of the village, far from the bustling streets and cheerful laughter he could only imagine but never witnessed. The world outside was a distant murmur, something he could hear but never touch. Born blind, Jimin’s life was one of careful steps and sheltered protection. His mother, having already lost her first child to an illness, held him close with an iron grip, her fear of the world’s dangers overshadowing his every moment.

Yet, there was one person who had always been allowed to visit—the boy from the neighboring farm, Jungkook. The two had grown up together, their bond forged in the quiet afternoons spent by the river, where Jungkook would describe the beauty of the world that Jimin could never see. In Jungkook’s words, Jimin learned about the sky’s shifting colors, the sway of the trees, and the warmth of sunlight on his face.

But as the years passed, something changed.

Jungkook’s voice, once filled with innocence, had become weighted with something darker, something unspoken. He no longer talked about the world’s beauty for its own sake, but rather how it would look with Jimin by his side. How Jimin’s presence completed the picture. Jimin didn’t understand. He had always cherished their friendship, but nothing more.

Then one day, it became too much.

"Jungkook, we can’t continue like this," Jimin said, his voice steady despite the ache in his chest. "I will always see you as my dearest friend, but I cannot give you more."

Jungkook’s silence was deafening. Jimin couldn't see the way his jaw clenched, the fire that blazed behind his dark eyes. All Jimin could feel was the sharpness of the air between them.

"I can’t live like this, Jimin. You’re everything to me," Jungkook whispered, his voice trembling with desperation. "How can you not see it?"

But Jimin couldn't see. And that was the tragedy of it all. No matter how much Jungkook loved him, Jimin’s heart would never mirror his.

When Jimin made the choice to cut their bond, he expected a painful goodbye, not the suffocating grip of Jungkook’s arms pulling him back into the darkness.
