Jasmine stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the neckline of her baby blue off-the-shoulder dress. The fabric hugged her body, flowing elegantly to her knees, with matching heels that elongated her legs. She smiled at her reflection, feeling beautiful for the first time in what seemed like ages. Tonight was important, not just for Reece, but for their relationship. She knew how much this company event meant to him, and she wanted to be by his side, despite her reservations.

As she finished applying a final touch of lipstick, there was a soft knock at the door.

"Come in," she called, her voice light with anticipation.

The door opened, and Reece stepped inside, his eyes widening as they landed on her. He stood there for a moment, seemingly at a loss for words. His gaze swept over her figure, his usual composed demeanor momentarily faltering.

"Jasmine," he murmured, taking a step closer, "...you look... beautiful."

A soft blush spread across her cheeks at the sincerity in his voice. She smiled and closed the distance between them, reaching up to smooth the lapel of his expensive black suit. "Thank you. And you look incredible, Reece. Like you own the world."

He chuckled softly, leaning down to kiss her gently. "I'm glad you're coming with me tonight."

"I wouldn't miss it," Jasmine replied, trying to push away the lingering nerves.

Together, they left the penthouse and got into Reece's sleek car. The ride to his company was quiet but comfortable, the city lights flickering past as they drove through the streets. Jasmine's heart pounded slightly harder than usual—this was her first time attending one of Reece's high-profile events, and while she trusted him, she couldn't shake the feeling of being out of place.

When they arrived at the company building, cameras flashed everywhere as Reece pulled the car into the drop-off area. The valet opened the door, and Reece quickly stepped out, walking around to help Jasmine from the car. The moment she stepped onto the pavement, the flash of cameras became more intense, as if the press was eager to capture this new side of Reece—one that involved a date.

Jasmine kept her gaze steady, drawing comfort from the warm weight of Reece's hand on her back as he guided her inside. The lobby of the building was breathtaking, adorned with beautiful, modern art and elegant lighting. The event hall, even more stunning, was softly lit, decorated with white and silver details that gave the space an almost ethereal glow. The soft hum of jazz music filled the air, blending with the sound of conversation and the occasional click of cameras. People were dressed in their finest attire, laughing, taking photos, and exchanging pleasantries.

Jasmine felt a bit out of place, but she braved it for Reece. Knowing how important the night was, she didn't want to disappoint him. He had been different lately—more attentive, more appreciative—and tonight was her way of showing him that she was willing to support him, even if it meant stepping out of her comfort zone.

As they made their way through the hall, heading toward a private table that had been set up for them, a group of older men spotted Reece. They waved him over, and soon enough, Reece was pulled into a conversation with his colleagues.

Jasmine smiled politely, feeling their gazes shift toward her as introductions were made. One of the men, in particular, eyed her with a look that made her skin crawl—his gaze lingering far too long on her figure, his smile too knowing. She shifted uncomfortably, glancing at Reece, silently hoping he would notice.

And, of course, he did.

Reece subtly shifted his position, standing in front of the man and effectively blocking his view of Jasmine. His hand found hers, squeezing it gently as if to reassure her. "This is Jasmine," Reece said, his tone firm but polite. "She's with me tonight."

The men exchanged glances, their smiles widening. "Ah, Reece," one of them said, chuckling softly, "we've never seen you bring a date before. She must be special."

Jasmine blushed at the comment, glancing at Reece, who looked unbothered by the implication. "She is," he replied simply, his voice carrying a weight of finality that ended the conversation.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed, Jasmine excused herself politely, saying she needed a moment to get some air. Reece nodded, letting her go, though she could feel his eyes following her as she walked away. She made her way to the large windows at the far end of the hall, the view of the city sprawling out below her, twinkling with a thousand lights. She stood there for a moment, taking in the sight, trying to center herself.

It was strange, being in this world of luxury and power, where everyone seemed to know Reece and treat him with such reverence. And yet, for all the opulence around her, Jasmine felt more like a spectator than a participant. It was hard to shake the feeling that this world—Reece's world—wasn't one she truly belonged to.

After a while, she heard footsteps approaching and turned to see Reece walking toward her, two glasses of wine in hand. He handed one to her, his eyes softening as he looked at her. "Thank you for coming," he said, his voice low. "I know this isn't your kind of thing, but it means a lot to me that you're here."

Jasmine smiled, touched by the sincerity in his voice. She leaned up and kissed him softly on the lips, a gesture of affection that felt natural in the moment. "I'd do anything for you," she whispered, hoping he understood that her support came from a place of love, even if she didn't fully agree with his world.

Reece kissed her back, his hand resting on the small of her back as they stood together by the window. For a brief moment, it felt like it was just the two of them, the noise of the event fading into the background.

But even in this moment of intimacy, Jasmine couldn't fully ignore the nagging thoughts in the back of her mind—the growing feeling that something was wrong, that she was slowly being drawn deeper into a world she didn't fully understand.

And as Reece held her close, she couldn't help but wonder how long she could keep playing the part.
