Today, I start my third year of college. I am a senior at Evergreen Valley College. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors start today.
The freshman started yesterday so that they could find their way around without having a bunch of people to disturb.
I didn't really think that I would go to college due to all the distractions of being part of a mafia.
I never thought I'd make it this far-senior year at Evergreen Valley College. College wasn't in the cards for me, not with the life I've been living. I'm 21, but I've seen and done more than most people twice my age, all thanks to the family mafia.
My dad, the Don, runs the most the Morales Mafia. My mom, the Donna, is every bit as ruthless as him, though she hides it behind her designer dresses and that perfect smile. She is kind and sweet and has the biggest heart ever.
My siblings and I? We're just pieces on the board. My oldest sister, Gabriella, 24, she is supposed to be next in line to take over after my dad steps down, but she does not want to take the position when the time comes. So, since I am the second oldest, i will be taking over.
She is as cold as ice. She handles most of the family's business interests, never flinching no matter how ugly things get.
But under all that, she is always there for me. The twins, Lucia and Miguel , are 16, just starting to get their hands dirty.
Then there's Luca, 17. He's the sibling I can talk to about anything, but he's always eager to prove he's tougher than he looks. And little Estrella-three years old. She's the only one who still has any innocence left in this family, and we all protect that at any cost.
But me? I was never supposed to be here, sitting in a college classroom, pretending to be a normal guy. I am the second oldest, so I help out with Gabriella a lot. I do most of the dirty work with her as well.
My mother sent me to Evergreen to at least get a proper education and not be in much trouble, as if a diploma was going to save me from who I really am. She made me promise to try and focus on my education. As if she didn't know, I was born with blood on my hands.
