[Monday - June 2nd - First Day of Summer School]
The girls are standing outside of Millwood High under their umbrellas, "Oh my god" Faran said
"I can't believe this is happening" Imogen said
"It is" Noa said
"And the gloomy weather is definitely fitting my mood" Tabby said
"My mom started law school today, and I'm trapped in a nightmare" Faran said
"At least it's not juvie" Noa said
"And it's not a Disney Cruise with my moms" Mouse said
"At least I'm not stuck at home with my mom all summer" Juliette added
"Summer School, a fate worse than death" Tabby glanced at Juliette, "Almost. Silver lining playbook, at least we'll all be together" Tabby told them
And with that, the girls linked arms with one another as they walked inside. They find the classroom assignments, "Wait. What the hell?" Mouse asked
"It...It looks like there are two sections prepping to retake those shitty Keystone Exams" Noa said
"And we're all in section A" Tabby said
"Hate that letter" Faran said
"Same" Noa, Mouse, Tabby, and Juliette said in unison
"Except for me" Imogen sighed, "Fuck that" She grabbed out a pen, "I'm transferring myself" Imogen declared
Once they made it to their classroom, Juliette sat in the back corner, as far away from Noa as humanly possible without looking too suspicious. To the other girls, Noa and Juliette were still the best of friends but Juliette knew that it wasn't the same. Mrs. Gibbons walked in, bringing Juliette out of her thoughts, "Imogen Adams, aren't you in Mrs. Murray's section?" She asked
"Yeah, I think there must've been a mistake with the section assignments" Imogen said
"This is section A. My roster doesn't have your name on it. Thus, you, Ms. Adams, are in the overflow classroom" Mrs. Gibbons said"The...overflow classroom?" Imogen asked before she had to leave
Then Mrs. Gibbons started calling attendance, "Nick Brody?" No response, "Absent. Sabrina Hooper?" Again no response, "Also absent" She said
[Dr. Sullivan's Office]
The girls are all sitting on the couches, "So, how was your first day of summer school?" Dr. Sullivan asked
Imogen chuckled, "Epically lame" Tabby said
"For lack of better terms, a complete fucking nightmare" Juliette added
"Not to mention everyone's in section A, except for me, who's in section B. B for blockheads, B for burnouts, B for bummer. But it sucks, not being with my girls. FOMO is real, Dr. Sullivan. And it is a form of psychological torture" Imogen said
"As is sitting in barely air-conditioned classrooms" Faran said
"Yeah. Humid, ass-boiling Millwood High was most definitely not the hot girl summer we had in mind" Noa said"So, I'm hearing frustration, which is warranted. You know, when I was in high school, I was a bit of a punk, and I landed myself in summer school more than once. But I always found a way to have a good time. So, I would encourage you girls to reframe your situation. You're only in class for a couple hours in the morning, which leaves plenty of time to have, in Noa's words, a hot girl summer" The girls chuckled, "Go to the lake in the afternoon. Or get a fun part time job. Better yet, have a causal fling. Summer school is epically lame, but it is not life or death. And isn't that a relief?" She told them
