you sat in the back of a black mercedes, the city life blurring past the tinted windows. the car smelt of leather and sylus's cologne; it had an earthy smell— exotic rosewood mixed with a hint of smoke. you'd only been around sylus a few times, but the scent was unmistakably his.

you would occasionally glance at the front where sylus's assistants sat. you'd seen one of them before at the restaurant, though you didn't know who it was. the two had briefly introduced themselves as 'luke' and 'kieran,' but you couldn't tell them apart.

their masks were unnerving, and you wished they'd take them off, but the boys themselves didn't seem as threatening as they looked. regardless, you could've done without those eerie things.

your school textbook was sprawled out on your lap while the tote bag you'd brought it in rested at your side. you didn't normally use totes, though you didn't see a point in bringing your whole backpack if you only needed your textbook.

you were trying to study with the limited free time sylus had given you, but the constant hum of the engine, the blurring lights outside the car, and the thought of seeing sylus again only worked to distract you.

sylus was a big deal, so naturally, the thought of seeing him made your stomach turn in knots. the fact that he only vaguely told you what he wanted you there for didn't help your nerves either.

the car eventually slowed, forcing you to look out the window. tall, imposing glass towers lined the street as you entered a more exclusive part of the city.

your hands tightened around the edge of your textbook as the car pulled in front of a sleek, dark building with polished glass doors. luke and didn't didn't say anything as the car came to a halt. one of them, the one in the driver's seat stepped out, then opened the door for you with a nod.

"miss y/n, we're here."

as if that much wasn't obvious. still, you offered him an appreciation hum as you closed your textbook and slipped it back into your tote bag. you then unbuckled your seatbelt and stepped out of the car, your bag held tightly at your side.

you take a moment to stare up at the building, almost feeling a little dizzy as you look up at it. you don't notice that one of sylus's assistants has closed the car door and locked it or that the other one is suddenly at your side, his hand hovering over your lower back.

"ready to go inside?" he asks.

you slowly glance at him, then offer a small nod. with that the two begin walking, gently guiding you into the building. the lobby was open, with high ceilings and polished floors.

even in a place like this, you felt as though you stuck out like a sore thumb. luke and kieran wordlessly led you through the halls until you reached an elevator. they stepped in with you before quickly pressing a number, but you didn't pay enough attention to remember what floor it was.

after a moment of silence, you let out a small breath of frustration. you felt as though you'd been in the elevator for an hour, though it had really only been minutes. you tried not catching luke or kieran's reflection in the closed doors, scared that might make this ride worse, but you couldn't help yourself.

they remained still, offering a small tilt of their head once or twice, but that was the closest you got to a normal human interaction from them.

the excruciating silence was finally interrupted by a light ring, the doors opening soon after. with that, the two stepped out, carefully guiding you down some more halls before stopping at a door.
