To Catch a Killer

Cake

You accepted L's offer of cake slightly confused by his spontaneous action. That was a mistake. You thanked L when he returned with a slice of strawberry cake for you. You bit into it. A sugarsplosion erupted in your mouth and the sweetness made you gag.
"Do you like it?" L asked.
"Yes," you replied when your mouth had recovered from the sweetness. You didn't want to appear ungrateful.
L nodded. "It has got five times the recommended sugar in it."
You choked on the bit that you were eating. "Really?" You said trying to act surprised. "I would never have guessed."
He sat back on his chair with his knees hugged against his chest. He suddenly leant forward. "Who do you think Kira is?" He whispered into your ear.
You almost chucked the plate of cake at him. You hadn't expected him to do that.
"Ermmm...I haven't really thought about it but I guess it's someone close to the police force. Perhaps Light Yagami? According to some close sources he has started to act really strange recently."
L seemed to think carefully about something. "Yes I've been suspecting him for a while now. And who do you think the second Kira is?"
"I'm not certain but if we say that Light is Kira then it will be someone who would obsess over him."
L pointed out a monitor. "This is Misa's room. She seems quite obsessive over Light as you can see."
Misa was talking excitedly to Light while Light looked like he would quite happily punch her in the face.
"So this is the Light Yagami," you said to yourself.
"Yes why?" Asked L seeming to listen to everything you say.
"Well I've never seen him before even though I've heard of him obviously. He is different to what I expected. He seems as if he is hiding a secret, one he wants no one to know."
"Yes I see what you mean," L said.
"Really?"
"Yes. He is also very mysterious," L began to chew the top of his thumb again.
"And if Light is Kira that would mean Kira two would be Misa. But of course these are all assumptions we need solid evidence to persecute either of them and Misa has a huge fan base so none of them would believe us. They would be in denial and I'm not sure we could hold off all those people."
L nodded deep in thought. "You know you're not that much different from me." He looked straight at you staring into you're eyes. "I'm glad we will be working together from now on."
"Really we can work together!" You said in surprise.
L nodded and said something else but you didn't hear him because you had lost yourself in his deep grey eyes.
