After working on the time machine for endless days and nights, Mario finally completes the time machine. The next day, Mario wakes up from bed and approaches the time machine. More thoughts run through Mario's head as the fateful moment approaches.
Mario (in his head): Why exactly am I friends with them?
Mario (in his head): Why exactly do I care about them?
Mario (in his head): Why exactly did I care about them?
Mario: Well today, I'm going to figure out why.
Mario begins to click buttons and flick levers on the time machine. The time machine projects a holographic screen onto the middle of the room. As Mario configures the time machine, the text on the screen reads: "TIME: DECEMBER 23RD, 2017. DESTINATION: THE XMAS DISCOVERY". Mario clicks one last button on the time machine, beginning the process of travelling back into time.
Blue sparks fly out of the time machine. The time machine begins to shake, and the noises of electric static emanate out of the time machine. Slowly, a rift in the fabric of reality opens from the time machine as a portal to the past opens. At the boundary of the portal, light from the present refracts and warps. Inside the portal, light from the past makes its way into the present. Mario peers inside the portal and sees the past unfold before him.
It was nighttime in a small town in the past. Red and green festive lights adorn the entire town. Past Mario and Meggy have just tripped over and fallen during a snowball fight. Wario and Waluigi gloat over their victory over Past Mario and Meggy. One of them throws a snowball at Meggy while she's still down. However, Meggy starts laughing.
Wario: Hey, what are you giggling about? You lost!
Meggy pulls herself off the ground, still laughing.
Meggy: Oh come on! Where's your Christmas spirit?
Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, and Bowser begin to laugh as well. Meggy gets up to make a small remark.
Meggy: You know...
Meggy: I think I found my own meaning of christmas...
Past Mario: Oh man, Imma starving! Last one to the castle has to give me their dinner!
SMG4: *Bitch, hell no!*
Mario, Luigi, Meggy, SMG4, Wario, Waluigi, Bowser, Toad, and Fishy Boopkins head back to the castle for dinner. Finally, Bob crashes in wearing a Santa Claus hat in a sleigh.
Bob: HeY guYS Wait! I dIdN'T GEt to Say wHat i Think tHe meanIng OF ChriStmAs Is!
Bob throws Santa Claus' corpse out of his sleigh.
Bob: It'S alL AbOut SanTA clAuS, BiTchEs!
Bob: loOk, I BrouGHt hiM Here!
Bob: Let'S go On A CrAzy ChrIStmAs adVenture jUSt Like In 2015!
Bob looks around but sees nobody.
Bob: HeLLo?
Bob: anyBody?
Bob: LookS like iT's The StrIp clUB fOr US, Santa!
Mario stops looking through the portal, overwhelmed by what he just witnessed.
Mario (in his head): Meggy being...
Mario (in his head): ...nice?
Mario (in his head): Everyone enjoying...
Mario (in his head): ...themselves?
Mario (in his head): SMG4 not...
